BWI Thurgood Marshall’s organizations and employees to support and assist federal workforce during the partial government shutdown

Donated Meals, Discounted Concessions, and Food Drive to Assist Federal Workers

Baltimore, MD, 2019-Jan-21 — /Travel PR News/ — Organizations and employees from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport are taking action to support the airport’s federal safety and security personnel affected by the partial government shutdown. More than 600 federal employees work at BWI Marshall Airport, including Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) air traffic controllers, and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents.

“We appreciate and thank our skilled, dedicated federal partners that continue working to serve our passengers during the partial government shutdown,” said Ricky Smith, Executive Director of BWI Marshall Airport. “I am proud that the airport community as a whole is working to support and assist our federal workforce during this difficult period.”

Fraport Maryland, the developer and manager of the concessions program at BWI Marshall, is helping to organize and coordinate efforts to support the airport’s federal employees. A number of airport restaurants and other tenants, including airline partners, have donated meals for the federal personnel in recent days.

More than a dozen restaurants and retailers at BWI Marshall Airport have come together to help ease this time for federal workers with discounts on food, free chair massages, and other support. The participants include Subway, Urban Bar-B-Que, DuClaw Brewing Company, Jamba Juice, Mayorga Coffee, Harbor Grille, Martini, Finesse Lyfestyle, Pinkberry, Hudson Group, and Be Relax, Vino Volo, among others.

“Our tenants are lending their support to federal aviation employees who serve the traveling public here at BWI Marshall,” said Brett Kelly, vice president of Fraport Maryland. “We have a tight-knit airport community, and personnel who ensure the safety and security of passengers and the smooth running of the airport are held in high regard.”

Several airport tenants are organizing a food drive for airport employees and the public to donate food and other non-perishable items for federal workers impacted by the partial government shutdown. Several drop-off locations are being established in the airport, including at the Maryland Transportation Authority Police (MDTA Police) station on the lower level of BWI Marshall Airport.
