Airline Announces New International Service to El Salvador and Additional Domestic Flights to Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, and San Juan

Baltimore, MD, 2020-Jan-28 — /Travel PR News/ — Spirit Airlines announced today (January 24, 2020) that it will continue to grow its service in the new year at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, adding both international and domestic flights in the coming months.

Starting May 21, Spirit will add nonstop service to San Salvador, El Salvador, marking the airline’s third international market served from BWI Marshall Airport.  That day, the airline will also add a second daily flight to San Juan, Puerto Rico.  Spirit Airlines will also boost service between BWI Marshall and two Florida markets.  Starting April 22, Spirit will provide additional daily flights to both Fort Lauderdale and Orlando.

“The added international and domestic service from Spirit Airlines is excellent news for BWI Marshall Airport customers,” said Ricky Smith, Executive Director of BWI Marshall Airport.   “Our passengers are enjoying more travel opportunities as Spirit continues to grow.”

Headquartered in Florida, Spirit Airlines is the second busiest carrier at BWI Marshall with a current passenger market share of 11 percent at the airport.  In 2019, Spirit added service between BWI Marshall and six new markets.  The airline recently announced that it would add a second daily flight to San Juan, Puerto Rico, also beginning May 21.

“Baltimore/Washington is a key piece of Spirit’s network,” Spirit Airlines President & CEO Ted Christie said.  “We’re adding nonstop flights where we know guests want to go the most, and we’re adding value for our guests by connecting them to even more destinations via our bases in Orlando and Fort Lauderdale.  We launched Baltimore/Washington-San Juan in February 2019 and have been extremely pleased with the performance of the market.  BWI travelers tell us they want nonstop service to El Salvador, and we believe that service will bolster our existing presence in El Salvador.”

With a total economic impact of $9.3 billion, BWI Marshall and its visitors generate and support more than 106,000 jobs throughout the region.  BWI Marshall remains the busiest airport in the region.
