Bulgaria’s seaside base grows stronger as Wizz Air holds 20% market share in Varna, flies 13 destinations to six countries and records 99.1% flight completion
(IN SHORT) Wizz Air is celebrating eight years at its Varna base, Bulgaria’s first summer base, having served more than 4.8 million passengers since 2017. In April 2025, the airline added a second Airbus A321neo in Varna to match growing demand. The carrier now offers 13 routes to six countries, including exclusive services to Milan Bergamo, Eindhoven and daily year-round flights to London. Holding a 20% market share and carrying nearly 300,000 passengers this year, Wizz Air emphasizes its strong regional ties and sustainable growth. The airline completed over 1,8 thousand flights with a 99.1% completion rate and achieved an 82,1% on-time performance, operating modern Airbus A320 Family aircraft. Executives Anastasia Novak and Michael Reisch praised the partnership’s impact on regional connectivity and future opportunities. Wizz Air’s environmental leadership has been recognized by CAPA’s Awards for Excellence (2022–2024) for lowest CO₂ emissions per RPK in EMEA.
(PRESS RELEASE) VARNA, Bulgaria, 2025-Jul-22 — /Travel PR News/ — Wizz Air—recognized as the most environmentally sustainable airline in the EMEA region*—is toasting eight successful years at its Varna base, Bulgaria’s seaside capital. Since launching the country’s first summer base in 2017, the airline has flown more than 4.8 million passengers to and from Varna, opening up budget-friendly travel to 13 destinations across six countries.
Strengthening that commitment, Wizz Air stationed a second Airbus A321neo in Varna in April 2025, expanding capacity to meet rising demand. Today, customers can book seats on 13 routes linking Varna with Belgium (Brussels Charleroi), Germany (Berlin, Dortmund, Memmingen, Frankfurt Hahn, Hamburg, Nuremberg, Leipzig), Israel (Tel Aviv), Italy (Milan Bergamo), the United Kingdom (London Luton, London Gatwick) and the Netherlands (Eindhoven).
Wizz Air is the sole operator on several of these city pairs, including Varna–Milan Bergamo (Tuesdays and Saturdays), Varna–Eindhoven (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) and the only year-round direct Varna–London service with daily flights.

So far this year, Wizz Air has operated more than 1,8 thousand flights at Varna with a completion rate of 99.1%. The carrier also boasts one of the best on-time performance results in the industry—82,1%—while flying state-of-the-art Airbus A320 Family aircraft that deliver a smart, comfortable and efficient experience.
