Budapest Municipality and Budapest Airport partner to accelerate infrastructure and tourism related development projects in Hungary

Budapest, Hungary, 2014-7-2 — /Travel PR News/ — An exemplary cooperation agreement is to be signed by the Budapest Municipality and Budapest Airport, primarily aimed at the acceleration of infrastructure and tourism related development projects which are in the interest of the city, the region, and the country alike, agreed Budapest mayor István Tarlós and Budapest Airport CEO Jost Lammers. The Budapest General Assembly approved the document at its session yesterday based on which Budapest and the main international airport of the country will further strengthen their relationship.

The core of the strategic agreement of Budapest Airport and the City of Budapest is that in line with their obvious common interests – and aligned with the goals of the “Budapest 2030” Long-term Urban Development Concept – they would do everything they can in order to promote the development of the infrastructure of the city, the region, and the airport, as well as the implementation of development efforts in tourism affecting Budapest and the country as a whole. In the framework of this cooperation, they are to work together at discussions aimed at economic development relating to new flights to be launched from Budapest, and they will increasingly support the expanding international and twin city relations of Budapest.

The city and the airport also work together in preparing and implementing touristic and cultural programs. In this framework, they prepare a joint program to attract conferences and exhibitions to Budapest and to launch and extensively promote the “Budapest brand”, ensuring a favorable environment for businesses, and strengthening the efforts of city marketing. Another important point of the agreement is that the city and the airport intend to participate together in international and/or domestic tenders aimed at the economic development of the airport region and the local development of the entire South-Pest region. They undertake to cooperate in the formulation and/or proposed amendments of laws and regulations aimed at ensuring that their common objectives are met, and in the preparation of measures which require direct support from the government.

Jost Lammers, the CEO of Budapest Airport said, “Our relationship with the Budapest Municipality has been characterized by openness and a trustful cooperation. With this agreement we reach the next level of even closer partnership and it will benefit the city, the region, and the Hungarian economy as a whole, contributing to further success of the country and Budapest.”

Increasingly close cooperation has already yielded concrete results in several areas. For example, Budapest Airport and the Budapest Transport Center (BKK) have been cooperating for months in enhancing the standards of public transport services provided at the airport, and passengers arriving in Budapest who wish to use those are now assisted by a separate information desk. The Budapest Municipality and the airport have also submitted a joint application to provide the venues for several matches of the UEFA Euro 2020 football championship.
