2012-11-26 — /travelprnews.com/ — Budapest Airport has made an important step in developing a completely new Business Park area on the Southern edge of the airport.
The area adjacent to national road No.4 has been out of use for long time, and was marked in Budapest Airport development plans as a site of a future business and commercial park.
Offices, warehouses and logistics. These were all marked as possible future tenants in a planned Business Park development area on airport site – now all this will start to become reality. With building permits obtained and the first lease agreement signed with the first tenants from spring 2013 very visible changes will be seen on the Southern edge of Budapest Airport.
Site-preparation will begin in December 2012 and the construction of the first offices and warehouses may start in 2013 as early as weather permits. While Budapest Airport was forced to postpone the construction of a brand new Cargo City near Terminal 2 A this year due to the collapse of Malév Hungarian Airlines, there are other opportunities to develop the huge available airport site. The area selected for Business Park development has long been disused by the airport or its partners. With serious new tenants on the horizon not only from aviation but from the logistics, warehousing and other sectors Budapest Airport gave green light to the development of the Business Park.
Both the construction and the operation of the Business Park will create several hundred new jobs in the Southern Pest area which is a very promising development area for industries based on good aviation and road infrastructure. Aviation cargo is a logical choice but other areas like pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, research and technology may form a new business community around the airport. The Business Park which will have open public access has excellent road connection to road 4. and the M0 ring highway around Budapest and is only 16 kilometers away from downtown. No less than 20 European countries can be found within the 1000 kilometer radius or “trucking distance” from Budapest Airport.
“We are confident that the start of the development of the Airport Business Park will give a good momentum to the whole area around the airport with new jobs and investment.” says René Droese, Property Director of Budapest Airport. He added: “We need some bureaucratic hurdles to be removed and this land will become the center of high value industries which are very important for the Hungarian economy.”
The Property Director referred to the five-year long legal debate about third party developments on airport land – under the asset management of Budapest Airport. Important projects, like the construction of a brand new 250 room four star airport hotel at Terminal 2 and others are halted due to red tape from the National Asset Management Agency (MNV Zrt.). Budapest Airport has pledged to remain the biggest job-generator in the Southern Budapest area and continues to offer new opportunities not only to airlines and the aviation industry but to other investments too.
