Budapest Airport and Celebi Ground Handling Hungary to refurbish the general aviation terminal for Formula 1 grand prix

Budapest, 2014-04-22 — /Travel PR News/ — Budapest Airport and Celebi Ground Handling Hungary have signed a five-year lease and reconstruction contract for the refurbishment of the general aviation terminal (GAT) at Budapest Airport. The GAT is used by the passengers of small and large private aircraft and business jets which do not operate as scheduled flights, but rather as privately owned or leased general aviation aircraft or luxury jets.

Budapest Airport has already commenced the execution of the project, estimated to cost half a million euros, which involves the phased refurbishment of the GAT located next to the old Terminal 1 at Budapest Airport. The major construction works, which also include the replacement of utility lines, will be completed by the end of May. This will be followed by internal refitting, which will be undertaken by Celebi Ground Handling and its contracted partner. The objective is for everything to be ready by the end of May, in time to receive the drivers and the VIP guests arriving for the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix to be held on the Hungaroring.

The five-year agreement on the GAT, which also includes a lease contract, was signed by Jost Lammers, the CEO of Budapest Airport, Osman Yilmaz, the managing director of Celebi Ground Handling Hungary Ltd. and René Droese, property director for Budapest Airport. Pursuant to the agreement, Celebi Ground Handling will continue to lease the GAT; however, the other two ground handling companies, Malév Ground Handling and Menzies will also be able to use the facility. The GAT handles the passengers of small private and business jets and leased aircraft. In addition to Formula 1 drivers, it has been used by many celebrities and Hollywood stars, such as Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Bruce Willis and Keanu Reeves, as well as billionaire businessmen seeking luxury service and discretion. Budapest Airport’s general aviation terminal offers both.

“The signing of this agreement with Celebi Ground Handling concludes lengthy and successful negotiations concerning the general aviation terminal,” commented René Droese, property director for Budapest Airport. “Our aim is to offer general aviation passengers speedy and efficient service in a luxurious environment, just as they expect. We are confident that after the refurbishment, the GAT will be able to satisfy every need, even the pickiest ones,” he added.
