Company expanding casino’s footprint at current location to reach 500 HHR games in third quarter of this year
NASHUA, N.H., 2023-Mar-29 — /Travel PR News/ — Delaware North, the global hospitality and entertainment company that in October purchased Boston Billiard Club & Casino in Nashua, on March 20 celebrated the casino’s $15 million in total contributions to charitable organizations since becoming a charitable casino in 2016.
As a charitable gaming facility in New Hampshire, Boston Billiard Club & Casino contributes a substantial portion of all daily gaming proceeds to local nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations, including 35% of all table game activity.
At a reception at the casino, Delaware North, which also has significant operations in Boston that include ownership and operation of TD Garden, also announced plans to add 350 more historical horse racing (HHR) gaming machines in the third quarter of 2023, bringing the total to more than 500. The company recently finalized plans to expand into adjacent space in the complex at 55 Northeastern Blvd. that houses Boston Billiard.
“As a charitable gaming operation, Boston Billiard Club & Casino’s impact in the Nashua community aligns directly with Delaware North’s core values and our commitment to investing in the communities where we operate,” Delaware North CEO Lou Jacobs said at the event.
“By increasing the number of HHR machines to more than 500, we’ll be able to contribute even more to our charitable partners in the community. Additionally, we’re excited to bring our full global hospitality expertise to the property to solidify its place as regional casino destination fully dedicated to the guest experience for years to come,” Jacobs said.
Delaware North installed 156 HHR gaming machines at Boston Billiard in October and November and is seeing an increasingly strong level of play. HHR gaming machines look and operate much like other gaming machines, but instead of randomizing the outcome of a play, they determine winners based on previously run horse races. They have joined the casino’s 19 table games, 16 poker tables and restaurant and bar amenities as a key part of the experience for patrons.
“We’ve been very encouraged with the response. People really like the gaming machines, and the fantastic staff at Boston Billiard has done tremendous work to bring a new and exciting level of play to our customers,” said Brian Hansberry, president of Delaware North’s gaming division.
Since the purchase, Delaware North has added about 20 new jobs at the venue, in addition to preserving 200 existing staff positions.
Also at the reception, Delaware North presented a $10,000 donation – separate from the casino’s regular contributions – to charitable partner the High Hopes Foundation for one of its clients with a special need. Sean and Amy Brady accepted the donation toward purchasing and training a diabetic alert dog for their daughter, Lillian, who suffers from Type 1 Diabetes, ADHD, a nonverbal learning and disruptive deregulation mood disorder.
The global hospitality and entertainment company has also acquired the 330-room Sheraton Nashua hotel, which is a few miles from Boston Billiard Club & Casino. Delaware North has retained the current management team, staff and the Sheraton brand and has begun working to implement its operational and marketing systems.
“The hotel was an attractive acquisition because it’s had significant renovations in recent years and Delaware North operates hotels at several of its regional casinos,” Hansberry said. “We’ll be able to provide convenient accommodations to the increasing number of guests we anticipate traveling from greater Boston and the New England region to experience Boston Billiard Club & Casino.”
Delaware North’s gaming business includes owning and operating casinos and other gaming operations in eight states: New York, New Hampshire, West Virginia, Florida, Illinois, Ohio, Arkansas and Arizona, as well as in Darwin, Australia. Through its Gamewise joint venture, the company also operates retail and/or mobile sports betting in Arkansas, Tennessee, West Virginia and Ohio. In December, Delaware North completed a $320 million expansion of Southland Casino Hotel in West Memphis, Arkansas.
In New England, Delaware North owns and operates TD Garden, home of the Boston Bruins, owned by Delaware North Chairman Jeremy Jacobs, and the Boston Celtics, as well as host of concerts and other entertainment events. Delaware North co-developed The Hub on Causeway, the adjacent 1.5-million-square-foot mixed-use retail, office, hotel and residential development. Delaware North’s Patina Restaurant Group operates Hub Hall and Banners Kitchen & Tap at The Hub on Causeway and provides food and beverage services at the New England Aquarium. The company also operates several restaurants at Boston Logan International Airport.
