(PRESS RELEASE) Guernsey, Jersey, 2024-Dec-13 — /Travel PR News/ — Channel Islands airline Blue Islands has announced the launch of new direct flights connecting Guernsey and Jersey to Newcastle, enhancing travel options between the Channel Islands and the north-east of England. The new service is set to begin on Saturday, May 3, 2025, and will run throughout the summer season, providing up to three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. This marks the first direct air connection between these destinations in several years, making short breaks and family visits more accessible and convenient.
The new routes will eliminate the need for travelers to use alternative airports in northern England, followed by lengthy road or rail journeys to reach Newcastle. Instead, passengers will enjoy seamless travel at competitive prices, strengthening links between the Channel Islands and the north-east.
“Expanding our connectivity is a priority for Blue Islands,” said Ronnie Matheson, Chief Revenue Officer of Blue Islands. “These new flights will provide greater convenience and choice for thousands of passengers traveling between Guernsey, Jersey, and Newcastle. We’re confident this will become a popular addition to our network.”
The service will extend through early November 2025 to accommodate school half-term holiday travelers. Year-round connections to the Channel Islands via Southampton will also remain available through Blue Islands’ partnership with Loganair, complementing the new direct routes.
Matt Thomas, Chief Executive of Ports of Jersey, emphasized the significance of improved air connectivity, saying, “This expansion supports Jersey’s economic growth by attracting business investment and boosting tourism, both of which are vital to the local economy. We welcome Blue Islands’ commitment to enhancing access to Newcastle.”
Ross Coppolo, Managing Director of Guernsey Ports, added, “The new service represents a collaborative effort between Guernsey Ports, Blue Islands, and Newcastle Airport. This connection will offer valuable access to the north-east for our community and visitors alike.”
Newcastle Airport’s Aviation Development Manager, Chris Ion, also welcomed the development: “Jersey has always been a popular destination for travelers from the north-east, and this new service brings additional choice and flexibility. We’re particularly excited to add Guernsey to our network, offering passengers the opportunity to explore the Channel Islands.”
