Belfast City Airport announces deadline for entries in search for Northern Ireland’s Best Small Visitor Attraction

BELFAST, Northern Ireland, 2019-Feb-28 — /Travel PR News/ — Attractions and experiences have until Friday 1st March to enter the search for Northern Ireland’s Best Small Visitor Attraction – a competition which will offer the winner a prize of £30,000 free marketing support and brand visibility at George Best Belfast City Airport.

Launched by the airport in partnership with Tourism NI, the competition is open to visitor attractions and experiences across Northern Ireland with an annual footfall of less than 100,000, with the £30,000 prize including £20,000 of branding on site at Belfast City Airport and £10,000 of online support through the airport’s digital channels.

To take part in the competition, applications should be sent via email to naomi@lighthouseni.com before the closing date, upon which each of the 11 local councils will select a shortlist of three attractions to progress through to the next stage of the competition.

The chosen attractions will then feature on the airport’s Facebook page, with the most popular from each council progressing to the final, when a judging panel will visit, experience and score each of the attractions to select the winner.

Katy Best, Commercial and Marketing Director at Belfast City Airport, commented:

“Belfast City Airport is an important gateway for travellers and connects Northern Ireland to the rest of the UK and Europe. With more than 2.5 million passengers travelling through the airport annually, the winning attraction or experience will be exposed to a huge number of both local and overseas visitors.

“At Belfast City Airport, we are committed to supporting local businesses, and we hope that the competition will not only shed light on the diverse range of attractions we have across Northern Ireland, but that the brand visibility provided through the marketing support will really benefit the winner in the long term.

“There has been a great response to the competition so far, and so with less than two weeks remaining to enter, we strongly encourage all attractions and experiences to submit their application as soon as possible.”

The £20,000 of free advertising on offer at the airport will be offered across a range of formats within the terminal, while the £10,000 of digital support will include activities such as email solus campaigns and social media takeovers.

John McGrillen, CEO at Tourism NI, said:

“Our focus is on encouraging visitors to extend their stay in the region, and this competition should raise awareness of the huge choice of attractions and experiences visitors have when they arrive in Northern Ireland.

“Smaller visitor attractions and experiences are extremely important contributors to the tourism industry, and so we are delighted to have partnered with Belfast City Airport for what I’m sure will be a very successful initiative.

“£30,000 of advertising is certain to have a very positive impact for the winning attraction or experience, and so we would encourage those eligible to apply.”
