Muharraq, Bahrain, 2018-Mar-22 — /Travel PR News/ — Students from the University of Bahrain (UoB) visited the construction site of the Bahrain International Airport’s (BIA) New Passenger Terminal as part of a public outreach programme by Bahrain Airport Company (BAC), the airport’s operator and managing body.
BAC Chief Development and Technical Officer, Abdulla Janahi delivered a presentation showcasing the details of the $1.1 billion Airport Modernisation Programme (AMP), including the New Passenger Terminal Building, which, upon completion, will be 220,000 square metres, four times the size of the existing terminal, and will feature state-of-the-art infrastructural systems housed in a LEED-certified green building. He later led a tour for the College of Engineering Architecture and Interior Design students, who observed the key architectural elements in the airport’s design, starting from the Central Utilities Complex (CUC), which supplies backup power, domestic water, and cold water to the New Passenger Terminal Building. The tour concluded with visits to the newly renovated and expanded Duty Free retail area, and the Bahraini cultural heritage corner, which aims to give visitors a taste of the country even if they do not set foot outside of the airport.
BAC is conducting the series of tours for the university students to familiarise them with the large-scale development and the various construction and architectural details involved in its implementation.
