2013-05-17 — /travelprnews.com/ — Four Seasons Resort Hualalai at Historic Ka‘upulehu, the first and only Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five Diamond resort on Hawaii Island, announces La Dolce Vita, an epicurean celebration of the “sweet life” featuring Palmina and Brewer-Clifton wines.
The series of culinary events, to be held at the Resort June 10-15, 2013, includes a variety of cooking classes, culinary experiences and spectacular dinners, all co-hosted by Steve and Chrystal Clifton, owners of Palmina and partners of Brewer-Clifton wines.
“As one of our annual signature culinary events, La Dolce Vita is a fun and interactive way to celebrate everything great about food, wine and friends,” says Robert Whitfield, regional vice president and general manager of Four Seasons Resort Hualalai. “This is a spectacular week on the beach – absolutely one of the best times to be had for anyone into the sweet life.”
The line-up of events (schedule subject to change) is as follows:
Monday, June 10
Pizza & Dolcetto Dinner – Chef Nick Mastrascusa and winemaker Steve Clifton host this Palmina tradition, in which they grill specialty pizzas beachside as the just-released 2012 Dolcetto is poured, along with Rosato and Pinot Grigio.
Tuesday, June 11
WOW Farm Tour Lunch and Wine Tasting – Chef Nick, Beach Tree manager Teddy Lyau and winemakers Steve and Chrystal Clifton host a trip to WOW Farms – Hawaii’s best tomato farm. Guests will join a private tour from owner Mike Hodson, pick tomatoes for that evening’s Taste of WOW Dinner and enjoy a farm lunch and wine tasting of Malvasia, Bianca, Rosato and Barbera.
Taste of Wow Dinner – WOW Farms owner Mike Hodson and winemakers Steve and Chrystal Clifton join Chef Nick and manager Teddy Lyau for an extraordinary prix-fixe dinner. WOW Farm tomatoes will be featured in all three courses, including made-to-order spaghetti with wild boar and Beach Tree’s signature Rosso wine, as well as Arneis and Nebbiolo.
Bubbles & Profiteroles – A perfect example of La Dolce Vita, this afternoon tradition of a drink and something sweet takes on a new life at the beach. ‘ULU general manager Wendle Lesher hosts as guests will sip a variety of sparkling wines, while Chef Nick teaches how to make chocolate profiteroles.
Ultimate Catch Dinner – Guests will enjoy a three-course prix-fixe medley of Hawaii’s great fish, grilled on the beach by Chef Nick. Winemakers Steve and Chrystal Clifton will present their Brewer-Clifton 2008 Gensa, 2009 Sweeney Canyon Chardonnay and 2009 Mt. Carmel Pinot Noir.
Thursday, June 13
Gnocchi Making Class – Chef Nick will teach guests to prepare his grandmother’s famous gnocchi while enjoying housemade sangria. That evening at the Gnocchi & Barbera Dinner, Chef Nick and winemaker Steve Clifton will cook the gnocchi the guests prepared, serving them their respective creations.

Friday, June 14
Olive Oil 101 – Chef Nick will host a fun and educational tasting of olive oils, including the premiere of the Beach Tree signature olive oil. Guests will learn about the rich history of olive oil, its various characteristics and which varietal to use with different foods.
Palmina Wines Dinner Party – The party will begin at the Beach Tree Lounge, with passed hors d’ouevres and wine, before the main seating in the dining room, followed by Chef Nick’s four-course family-style prix-fixe dinner and celebration. Winemakers Steve and Chrystal Clifton present their 2011 Tocai Friulano, 2011 Malvasia, 2012 Botasea Rosato, 2011 Dolcetto, 2010 Barbera and 2007 Nebbiolo “Santa Barbara County.”
Meet the Winemakers – Guests are invited to join Steve and Chrystal Clifton, makers of Palmina Wines and partners of Brewer-Clifton Wines, for an intimate discussion and wine tasting of Palmina’s 2011 Arneis and 2011 Dolcetto, and Brewer-Clifton’s 2009 Mt. Carmel Chardonnay and 2009 Pinot Noir.
Brewer-Clifton Winemaker Dinner – Guests will be treated to a spectacular evening of dining and wine pairings at ‘ULU Ocean Grill + Sushi Lounge. The evening begins with hors d’ouevres and wine alongside the beach, before the seating on the oceanfront lanai. Winemakers Steve and Chrystal Clifton host the evening, which features Chefs Nick Mastrascusa and Ricardo Jarquin’s locally-sourced five-course menu, local farmers and Brewer-Clifton’s 2009 Gnesa Chardonnay, 2009 Mt. Carmel Chardonnay, 2007 Rancho Santa Rosa Chardonnay, 2009 Ampelos Pinot Noir, 2009 Cargasacchi Pinot Noir and 2007 Mt. Carmel Pinot Noir.
Guests are also invited to book the Experience More package, which includes a USD 1,000.00 Resort credit. This five-night package includes luxurious suite accommodations, and the Resort credit is applicable to incidental charges, including La Dolce Vita events, Spa,retail and golf.
