2012-08-08 — /travelprnews.com/ — Aberdeen Airport has been shortlist for a top award, for going that extra mile in social media.
The Simpliflying Awards 2012 have named Aberdeen as one of the finalists in the category ‘Best Airport in Social Media’.
Sarah Campbell is the Media and Communications Manager said: “When Aberdeen Airport first entered the social media sphere, it was to communicate with passengers more effectively in the times of a crisis situation. The crisis in question was the impact of volcanic ash on European airspace, and Aberdeen was one of the first airports to be affected by the cloud. It became startlingly clear to us that a new communication tool had been unlocked which allowed us to speak to our passengers – first and fastest – with up to date information.
“It has since been instrumental in communicating during the worst of a particularly bad winter snow-fall, and even in times of normal operations. To hear passengers say “See when I get back to Aberdeen I want to heartily shake the hand of whoever operates the @abz_airport account” on Twitter shows us that we are doing something right.“
