Los Angeles, California, 2013-02-20 — /travelprnews.com/ — In anticipation of a new LAX FlyAway® bus service between the Metro Rail Exposition Line rail station at La Brea Avenue and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) this spring, the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today approved a one-way passenger fare of $7. To encourage ridership, the Board also approved an introductory fare of $6 for at least the first six months of operation.
Los Angeles World Airports staff projects the annual cost to operate the Expo/La Brea FlyAway® bus service, which will offer 18 daily trips, will be approximately $267,000.
On a related, but separate matter, the Board also approved a one-dollar increase to $8 to the one-way fare between the FlyAway® Van Nuys bus terminal and LAX. The new fare becomes effective July 1, 2013.
Airport officials said the fare increase seeks to recover the full cost of the FlyAway® service at Van Nuys, including costs for operating and maintaining the bus terminal. Costs associated with operating the FlyAway® terminal at Van Nuys include security, custodial services, landscaping, building maintenance and utilities (gas, water and electricity). Airport officials said that with the fare increase, projected annual operating costs will be reduced from an annual deficit of approximately $531,000 to anticipated net operating revenue of approximately $168,000.
The LAX FlyAway® bus terminal is located at 7610 Woodley Avenue in Van Nuys. For further information, telephone (866) 435-9529 or visit www.lawa.aero/flyaway
