2012-08-01 — /travelprnews.com/ — The aging electronic Welcome to Kansas City, Missouri sign at Kansas City International Airport was replaced with a state-of-the-art message board so visitors are greeted in style. Next on the schedule is replacing the six overhead electronic signs along Cookingham Drive and International Circle to ensure visitors can find their departing flights.
Beginning August 2, contractors will remove, configure and replace all overhead electronic terminal/airline signs at KCI. The new signs will be more visible and attractive, and Aviation Department employees will be able to change airline names and messages from their workplace, rather than by the roadside. The project is expected to take six to seven weeks.
The contractor will have one lane open at all times. To minimize the impact of the project on travelers, numerous construction and directional signs will be posted to help drivers navigate through construction areas. Travelers are strongly urged to allow extra time when driving to the airport. Drivers should also closely observe traffic control devices to avoid mishaps or delays.
The Kansas City Airport System is an Enterprise Fund Department of the City of Kansas City, Mo., and is supported wholly by airport user charges. No general tax fund revenues are used for the administration, promotion, operation, or maintenance of the airports in the system. Visit www.flykci.com and www.flymkc.com for more information.
