2013-09-26 — /travelprnews.com/ — airberlin provides the highest level of care when transporting patients to their destination: passengers who suddenly become ill on holiday or who have an accident, frequently have special needs in terms of transport for their return journey. Since 2008 airberlin has been offering patients with health issues a Medical Transport Service, which provides special facilities for sitting or lying down and medical care on board the aircraft. As a rule, medical transport can be organised within just 24 hours anywhere on the airline’s route network.
The number of Medical Transport Services provided has more than tripled since 2008 and this represents a growing business segment for airberlin. In 2012, around 1,500 guests used the service. About half of these guests were insured through the ADAC. As one of the first contractors of the service, today the ADAC is still airberlin’s largest partner in the field of medical transport. The Medical Transport Service is requested particularly frequently on flights to Germany from the Spanish mainland, the Balearics and the Canary Islands. On long-haul flights the main destinations to request the service are Miami and New York JFK.
“For over five years now, we have been offering a comprehensive and flexible service for repatriating patients in our passenger aircraft. The ADAC is our most important partner and together we have already provided an optimal repatriation service for several thousand passengers,” said Ibrahim Gülcan, Head of Operations Control at airberlin.
“During this long-standing collaboration, airberlin has proven itself to be a flexible, highly professional and reliable partner for the ADAC and its members in the area of medical repatriation services. The close cooperation that exists between the specialist departments at the ADAC and airberlin helps to constantly improve the service offered to ADAC members and airberlin customers,” said Christoph Ullrich, Manager International Network, at ADAC-Schutzbrief Versicherungs-AG.
airberlin offers the Medical Transport Service in collaboration with the ADAC, insurance companies, attending physicians, independent laboratories and experts, as well as pharmacies. Requests for medical transport are processed by the Pax Control team in the Network Operations Center (NOC) at airberlin. The staff in the Medical Transport department are available every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the telephone number +49 30 3434 3969.
