2013-09-02 — /travelprnews.com/ — On 2nd September airberlin technik welcomed 17 new apprentices to its Dusseldorf site. Of these adolescents, 14 are embarking on apprenticeships as aircraft mechanics specialising in maintenance and three as office clerks. airberlin technik has around 80 apprentices, making it one of the largest training facilities in the Dusseldorf region.
On their first day the new apprentices got to know their new workplace by taking a tour of the airberlin technik premises at Dusseldorf airport, where they were welcomed by Tobias Hundhausen, Senior Vice President Production and Accountable Manager at airberlin technik. “By running our own training facility we are not only investing in the future of young people, but we are also safeguarding airberlin technik’s very high standards in aircraft maintenance by promoting the development of highly-qualified
junior staff,” said Tobias Hundhausen.
Alongside the fundamental theoretical and practical knowledge needed for their future careers, the training plan also includes some exciting projects. As recently as the end of August, trainees in the first year of their apprenticeship constructed a Space Balloon, which was designed to rise to a height of 40,000 metres into the stratosphere as part of an experiment and then glide back to earth on a parachute. Working on this project the trainees not only had fun, but at the same time they learned about important concepts related to aviation.
From next year airberlin technik will be offering apprenticeships for aircraft mechanics specialising in aircraft manufacture for the first time. The deadline for applications for all the apprenticeships starting in September 2014 is 31st October 2013. Those interested can apply via the company website at airberlin.com. Further information on airberlin technik is available at airberlin-technik.com.
