Airberlin passengers can now buy extra comfort individually

Individual travel comfort is now the trend

Berlin, Germany, 2016-Mar-09 — /Travel PR News/ — A seat in the front row, extra legroom, a tasty currywurst sausage or extra baggage – passenger wishes are infinitely individual. airberlin offers numerous additional travel options, so every passenger can fly just as they like. Options can be selected during booking or added up to a few hours before departure for a small surcharge. airberlin passengers are increasingly willing to pay for additional travel comfort. With the rise in demand airberlin also saw an increase in ancillary revenues per passenger by 2 euros over the last months.

“Passengers are only prepared to pay for quality extras. Premium offerings such as our XL seats represent real value at an affordable price. According to Skytrax*, our XL seats offer the largest pitch of all airlines in long-haul economy. And there are many more ideas in the pipeline which will help us to tailor our product even more to the individual needs of our customers,” said Julio Rodriguez, Chief Commercial Officer at airberlin.

The most common options chosen by airberlin passengers are seat reservations, followed by additional baggage and on-board purchases. A dynamic and differentiated pricing system ensures that prices adapt to the demand.

airberlin is the only airline in Europe that lets passengers bid for an empty neighbouring seat: passengers with a valid economy ticket can bid up to 72 hours before departure, with bidders notified 12 hours before departure whether they were successful.

Another USP of Germany’s second largest airline is also a year’s subscription for paid extras: the topbonus Service Card. Service Card holders pay 119 euros annually to enjoy countless additional services free of charge or at reduced rates: for example, they can take at least one additional piece of baggage up to 23kg (depending on the tariff category) and bring sports baggage, or save up to 15 euros per flight segment on XL seat bookings. All chargeable extras can be booked on www.airberlin.com, around the clock from the airberlin Service Centre: 0180 6 – 334 334 (€ 0.20 per call from a German landline / max. € 0.60 per call from a German mobile) or at a travel agency.
