airberlin connects Berlin and Madrid with daily non-stop flight

  • Inaugural flight takes off on 25th February 2013
  • Berlin hub offers seamless connection to destinations in Scandinavia and Eastern Europe

2012-12-17 — /travelprnews.com/ — airberlin is continuing to expand its network and will fly non-stop from Berlin to Madrid from 25th February 2013. Thanks to the daily non-stop flight, airberlin is sustainably strengthening its presence in the strategic Madrid market while at the same time connecting its Berlin hub with the Madrid hub of its oneworld® partner Iberia.

Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, Chief Strategy and Network Planning Officer airberlin, said: “The new connection between Berlin and Madrid gives airberlin direct access to one of the most important markets in Spain and at the same time strengthens its Berlin hub. Thanks to the short transfer times in Berlin, the new route means that we are also able to offer an attractive service to guests who wish to take flights from Madrid and transfer via Berlin to Scandinavia or Eastern Europe, for instance. This also applies to flight guests who wish to fly from these destinations to the Spanish capital.”

Burkhard Kieker, visitBerlin CEO, said: “We welcome airberlin’s commitment in maintaining the important Berlin-Madrid route. This is an important connection, particularly for passengers from Scandinavia, Poland and Eastern Europe, as well as South America, and we will be promoting it in our marketing activities.”

Dr Arturo Claver, director of the Spanish tourist information office in Berlin, said: “We are extremely pleased that airberlin has taken the decision to connect the capital cities of Germany and Spain with the new Berlin-Madrid-Berlin route. This connection is a perfect response to the strong and constantly growing demand in both Spain and Germany for holiday and business trips between our two capital cities. The daily non-stop airberlin flight also helps further strengthen the close bilateral relationships between Germany and Spain.”

The new non-stop flight represents the perfect addition to the Berlin hub structure and enables airberlin flight guests to enjoy seamless connecting flights via Berlin, especially from and to the Nordics and Eastern Europe. airberlin currently offers connecting flights from Madrid via Berlin to a total of 16 destinations in Europe, including the two major Swedish cities of Stockholm and Gothenburg. The Northern European capitals Copenhagen and Oslo will also enjoy a smooth connection to Madrid via the Berlin hub from 25th February onwards. The new connection means that the Polish capital, Warsaw, and Krakow will also benefit from an outstanding connection to Madrid with short transfer times in Berlin.

airberlin is using a Boeing 737-800 with 186 seats for the flight from Berlin to Madrid. The flight leaves Berlin daily at 08:50, arriving at Madrid-Barajas at 11:55. The return flight departs from Madrid at 13:15 and lands in Berlin at 16:15. At Madrid-Barajas, airberlin takes off from and lands at Terminal 4, which is also used by the other airlines in the oneworld alliance.

The flights from and to Madrid can now be booked online at airberlin.com, through the airline’s Service Center around the clock on 030 3434 3434 (local rates apply) or through a travel agency.
