BERLIN, 2015-2-9 — /Travel PR News/ — airberlin once again increased its number of available seat kilometers (ASK) and revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) in yearly comparison. The increase in available seat kilometers is due to the greater number of long-haul flights, especially to Abu Dhabi and the Caribbean. The available seat kilometers increased by 5.7 percent to 3,875.4 million. During the same period, airberlin recorded an increase in passenger kilometers to 3,035.7 million, i.e. an increase of 4.5 percent.
Flight capacity utilization for January, a month which is traditionally plagued by weak demand, decreased by 0.9 percentage points to 78.3 percent. In this context, capacity was reduced by 2.9 percent in comparison with the previous year, due to the optimization of airberlin’s flight route network. In total, airberlin welcomed 1,695,371 passengers on board in January (previous year: 1,763,934).
