Aerolineas Argentina announced 6M passengers transported so far this year

It will reach 8.3 million in 2013, a record in passengers carried by Aerolineas and Austral.

Buenos Aires, Argentina, 2013-10-03 — /travelprnews.com/ — On the 1st of October Aerolineas Argentina reached the figure of 6.ooo.ooo passengers transported so far this year, confirming the projection of the company, which estimated that by 2013 more than 8.3 million people would fly on Aerolineas and Austral.

Ms. María Paola Macchiarola was number 6 million arriving on flight 1494 from Santiago del Estero and was received at the Metropolitan Airport by the Chairman of the airline group, Dr. Mariano Recalde, and the nation’s Minister of tourism, Enrique Meyer.

Last year the company transported 7 million passengers, a figure recorded on December 26, 2012, when a passenger, from Formosa, arrived in Buenos Aires on an Austral flight.

Inter annual growth will be then of 20% over last year, and is the product of the significant increase of frequencies (24.633 in 2008 went to 46.369 in 2013); more than 100% increase in flights between Argentina and Brazil (being Aerolineas the company with more “nonstop flights” operated between Mercosur member countries); the opening of the Federal corridor which interconnects provinces and mainly to the modernization and incorporation of new aircraft that, by year’s end, will add 63 aircraft of which 50 cover domestic and regional routes.

The figures clearly marks the sustained growth that Aerolineas Argentinas and Austral have had since the State took over the management of the company, in 2008, the number of passengers did not reach 5 million. In 2009 5.404.639 people chose to fly by Aerolineas; 2010 did 6.400.269; in 2011 due to the eruption of Puyehue volcano, the figure fell to 6.017.000 passengers; to closing with 7,000,000 last year.
