Paris, France, 2019-Jul-17 — /Travel PR News/ — Accor announces today (July 12, 2019) that the Group has adopted the European Chicken Commitment* and has committed to reach the higher welfare standards by 2026 for 100% of the broiler chicken in its European supply chain.

The European Chicken Commitment is built on a collective agreement that several NGOs have achieved regarding what the most pressing welfare concerns related to broiler production are, and how to best mitigate those concerns.

By 2026, Accor will meet the following requirements for 100% of its broiler chicken sourced for Europe:

  • Meet improved environmental standards such as a lower stocking density, better lighting, air quality, perch space, etc.
  • Adopt breeds that demonstrate higher welfare outcomes and achieve higher-welfare stunning and processing standards
  • Reinforce the existing collaboration and engage more farms in this combat to advance animal care.

In France, Accor will go further and ensure that at least 20% of its chicken meat volume comes from farms that meet these criteria and guarantee the animals’ access to free range.

As part of the Group’s continuous improvement plan for animal welfare, Accor has already been working alongside its suppliers to provide free-range or cage-free eggs (shell and liquid). As indicated in the latest Healthy and Sustainably Food Charter, the objective is to roll out this commitment in all its hotels (by the end of 2020 in areas where supply chains are developed, and by the end of 2025 in all other markets). With more than 200 million meals served a year worldwide, Accor is deeply committed to offering its guests high-quality, healthy and sustainable food, while contributing to the transformation of the traditional agricultural system. Apart from the Charter, this ambition has also been translated into many fruitful initiatives: in France, for instance, Sofitel, MGallery and Pullman properties already expect 100% of their fresh fruits and vegetables offer being organic.

As a world-leading augmented hospitality group, Accor constantly drives the change towards sustainability with its Planet 21 – Acting Here program. By involving every stakeholder in this initiative (clients, employees, partners, and local communities), Accor makes determined efforts to build positive hospitality day by day.
