Aberdeen International Airport’s Midnight Runway Run Brings Community Together and Raises £65,000 for Charities
(NEWS) ABERDEEN, Scotland, 2025-Aug-26 — /Travel PR News/ — Aberdeen International Airport, in collaboration with CHC Helicopter, successfully staged its sixth annual Midnight Runway Run on Saturday night, bringing together nearly 400 runners for a unique 4km challenge on the brightly lit runway. The event, which has become a fixture in the airport’s calendar, raised an impressive £65,000 to benefit two regional charities, AberNecessities and Fersands and Fountain, both of which play a crucial role in supporting disadvantaged families and strengthening communities across Aberdeen.
The Runway Run is known not only for its striking setting but also for the way it unites participants, sponsors, and volunteers in a celebration of local spirit and generosity. Robert Paterson, Head of Operations at Aberdeen International Airport, praised the strong turnout and described the run as a much-anticipated occasion that embodies community collaboration. CHC Helicopter Captain Ryan Broadhurst, who founded the event, echoed this sentiment, noting the vibrant atmosphere and extending thanks to all those who took part and contributed behind the scenes.
A wide range of organisations supported the 2025 edition, including Avi Alliance, Ace Aviation, NATs, Alpha Fencing, GJ Services, Cirrus Workspaces, ABM, APCOA, Stagecoach as the official transport partner, Northsound as media partner, and Signs Express as award sponsor, along with Abermedia and Yellow Balloon Films. Their backing ensured the event’s continued success and helped raise essential funds for the chosen charities.
Both beneficiaries expressed deep appreciation for being included in the initiative. Mark Lovie, Project Coordinator at Fersands and Fountain SCIO, said the support will have a tangible effect on hundreds of families, while AberNecessities founder Danielle Flecher-Horn emphasised how the funds will allow her organisation to provide essentials for children living in poverty. She also noted the joy of seeing their mascot, Bertie the Bear, cheer on participants during the evening. Both organisations commended the airport and its partners for their ongoing commitment to improving lives locally.
The Midnight Runway Run has evolved into a symbol of solidarity in the region, combining a memorable experience for participants with meaningful outcomes for the wider community. With another successful event completed, organisers, sponsors, and charities alike are already looking ahead to future editions and the continued positive impact the run delivers for families in need.
