AAAE’s Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, Justin Barkowski appointed to FAA’s Aviation Rulemaking Advisory Committee

Alexandria, Va., 2020-Dec-17 — /Travel PR News/ — Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao has appointed Justin Barkowski, AAAE’s Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, as an airport representative on FAA’s Aviation Rulemaking Advisory Committee (ARAC) for a term of up to two years.

ARAC provides industry officials the opportunity to provide advice and recommendations about regulations that affect the aviation industry.  Other ARAC members include representatives from a number of aviation-related associations including Aerospace Industries Association, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Airline Pilots Association, General Aviation Manufacturers Association and National Business Aviation Association; as well as private sector representatives.

“Your work representing the views of airports will greatly benefit ARAC and the department’s efforts to create better rules and/or guidance material,” Chao stated. “Your experience and leadership will add valuable insights and perspectives that will help further ARAC’s mission.”

In his role at AAAE, Barkowski represents and advocates before DOT, FAA, the Environmental Protection Agency, and other agencies overseeing the U.S. aviation industry.

“Justin has been an impact player for airports and AAAE on the regulatory front from the moment he joined the organization,” AAAE Executive Vice President Joel Bacon said. “The appointment by Secretary Chao to the ARAC will further his ability to serve our members and ensure that the views of airport executives on regulations and guidance receive careful consideration.”

Prior to joining AAAE, Barkowski managed regulatory and policy issues at the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, particularly airmen certification, aircraft certification, and unmanned aircraft systems. He served on the Drone Advisory Subcommittee, the Unmanned Aircraft Safety Team, and co-chaired the 26 Coalition for UAS Safety, which brought over 20 aviation associations together to collaborate on safe UAS integration.

Barkowski began his career practicing law in California. He is an instrument-rated commercial pilot.
