AAAE recognizes Salt Lake City International Airport’s Al Stuart, A.A.E. with Distinguished Service Award

“Al is an outstanding colleague who has served the nation’s aviation community in many important roles during a distinguished career, including widely-respected airport leader and active AAAE member,” said AAAE Chair Jeanne Olivier, A.A.E., ACE, Assistant Director, Aviation Security and Technology at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. “In addition to four decades of dedicated service to the aviation industry, Al has selflessly devoted his time and expertise in a wide array of volunteer positions that have resulted in numerous improvements throughout our industry.”The Distinguished Service Award is one of AAAE’s highest levels of recognition. Men and women receive the award as a mark of accomplishments in their professional and personal lives. Respected leaders of their own communities, these men and women also contribute to other aviation organizations, serve AAAE and its chapters, and participate in civic and community affairs. Distinguished Service Award winners exemplify the best in airport management by continually bringing credit to the profession and the aviation community. All DSA winners are Accredited Airport Executives (A.A.E.) and exemplify the standards accreditation seeks to inspire. Stuart will receive the award this morning at a meeting of the Salt Lake City International Airport Advisory Board.

Stuart has been active in many aspects of AAAE over the years, including serving for six years on the Board of Directors and as Chair of the AAAE Operations, Safety and Planning Committee, where he currently co-chairs the Airside Safety and Procedures Working Group. Stuart also served as President and on the Board of Directors of the Northwest Chapter of AAAE (NWAAAE), where he established the chapter’s first scholarship fund. Additionally, Stuart is a five-time Chair of the AAAE/NWAAAE Airport Facilities Management Conference Committee and has served on a number of other AAAE conference committees.

Stuart has been with Salt Lake City International Airport for the past 38 years. He started as an Airport Operations Officer and later served as a Senior Airport Operations Officer, an Airport Operations Supervisor, an Airfield Manager, and the Airfield Operations Superintendent. Over his distinguished career, Stuart has developed and managed airfield, terminal, landside and law enforcement programs. Stuart is a former president of the Utah Airport Operators Association and served on the organization’s board for 35 years.
