2012-08-21 — /travelprnews.com/ — Flughafen Zürich AG concluded its first half year 2012 with a positive result. With 80.2 million Swiss Francs, net profit for the first half year of 2012 rose by 9.1 percent compared to the first half year of 2011.

Flughafen Zürich AG: Positive First Half Year 2012

The number of passengers grew by 3.1 percent. With 457.0 million Swiss Francs, revenues were 5.8 percent higher than in the first half year of 2011. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) reached 242.2 million Swiss Francs, which marks an increase of 7.4 percent compared to last year’s period.

Traffic Development
From January to June 2012, a total of 11.8 million passengers departed, arrived or changed planes at Zurich Airport (plus 3.1 percent). The number of local passengers increased by 2.5 percent and the number of transfer passengers by 4.4 percent compared to last years’ period. Transfer share was at 34.8 percent in the first semester of 2012.

Air traffic movements (ATM’s) decreased by 3.1 percent to 133’873 in the first half of 2012. The average seat load factor was at 72.5 percent (70.6 percent in the first half year of 2011) while the average passenger per movement number increased by 5.0 percent to 103.3 passengers. Freight turnover was at 210’211 tons in the first half of 2012 (minus 0.3 percent).

Turnover
The turnover increased from 431.9 million Swiss Francs to 457.0 million Swiss Francs (plus 5.8 percent). Revenue in the aviation segment increased by 3.7 percent to 283.7 million Swiss Francs. Revenue in the non-aviation segment rose by 9.5 percent to 173.3 million Swiss Francs.

Commercial
Newly opened shops and restaurants led to an increase of 6.8 percent to 246.3 million Swiss Francs. While turnover on the airside increased by 13.5 percent, turnover on the landside saw a slight decrease of 0.4 percent. Amongst others, this can be explained by various reconstruction during this period.

Key Figures
Operating expenses increased by 4.1 percent from 206.3 million Swiss Francs to 214.8 million Swiss Francs. Primarily, this is due to the new infrastructure such as Dock B and Security Check Building. EBITDA increased by 16.6 million Swiss Francs from 225.6 million Swiss Francs to 242.2 million Swiss Francs. With 53.0 percent, this half year’s EBITDA margin stood slightly above last year’s period figure of 52.2 percent.

Outlook
Flughafen Zürich AG expects the passenger volume to increase by approximately 2.5 percent for the whole year of 2012. Considering this forecast, Flughafen Zürich AG accordingly expects net profit including noise components to grow by 5 to 10 percent.
