2012-11-13 — /travelprnews.com/ — The Maldives Game Fishing Association (MGFA) has today announced entries are open for the second Maldives Game Fishing Challenge from 23 to 26 November. Set in the pristine waters of North and South Male’, and Vaavu atolls, this year’s event is bound to enthrall all levels of angler over three action-packed days of fishing for species such as Wahoo, Marlin, Sailfish, and Big Eye and Dog Tooth Tuna.
Organizers are expecting even better fishing conditions than last year, with the event to be held later in the month, closer to the full moon. In its first year, the event also received praise from the IGFA as an excellent example of a well-conducted tournament, no small feat for the nascent MGFA organization.
Tim Simpson from Australia’s Blue Water magazine last year wrote “This is a small event with a big future.” MGFA Vice President, Mr Ahmed Nazeer, agrees: “The competition is not only a great opportunity for our international anglers to mix with Maldivians: it is a wonderful avenue for The Maldives to showcase its breath-taking marine environment and spectacular game fishing to the angling world. Importantly, it also promotes sustainable fishing through its tag-and-release emphasis.”
A new US$200 per angler entry price includes three full days of fishing, a 2012 MGFC tee-shirt, IGFA and MGFA 12 months membership, a ticket to welcome drinks and the closing presentation dinner to be held at Major Sponsor Bandos Island Resort. Anglers may enter individually or in teams of up to four competitors.
Many anglers will sail away with fantastic prizes from sponsors including cash, or equipment prizes from MGFC sponsors Shimano Australia, Pakula Lures and Sabre Singapore. Accommodation prizes will also be awarded to some successful anglers. Categories include individual and team winners and runners up, heaviest fish by species and tag-and-release.
Entries are open now. Don’t miss your chance to visit one of the most unique and picture-perfect places on earth, while soaking up some serious angling. This is truly an event that will stay hooked in your memory. Enter now at www.mgfa.org.mv
