PGA Tour event offers something for everyone, from fun in the sun to charitable giving

reensboro, N.C., 2014-8-15 — /Travel PR News/ — Wyndham Worldwide (NYSE: WYN), one of the world’s largest hospitality companies, is giving families an opportunity to enjoy one last vacation of the summer #AtTheWyndham during this week’s Wyndham Championship, August 14 – 17. The annual golf tournament is the final stop of the PGA TOUR’s FedEx Cup regular schedule.

Held annually at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., the Wyndham Championship is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. Attracting more than 80,000 spectators each year, The Wyndham, as it has come to be known, offers a week full of championship golf, family-fun activities, prizes, as well as charitable giving to support the community. For many fans, attending the tournament is their last escape of the summer, and for the PGA TOUR players, it’s the final stop before the playoffs and is seen as a “must-play” for those looking to win points before the FedEx Cup.

“As the global leader in family-friendly travel accommodations, we are all about helping families make experiences worth remembering, and so we enjoy creating  an outstanding vacation atmosphere at the Wyndham Championship,” said Stephen P. Holmes, chairman and chief executive officer, Wyndham Worldwide. “We are proud to celebrate the 75th anniversary and be a part of the rich history and tradition of this tournament.”

Good Works
Philanthropy has been a cornerstone of the Wyndham Championship since 2006, and this year is no different. “Birdies Fore Backpacks” is a new charitable initiative at the tournament. Individuals are able to pledge a donation for each birdie made during the event at www.WyndhamChampionship.com or they can make a flat donation on-site during the week. Additionally, fans at Sedgefield Golf Club are encouraged to support the program by volunteering their time at the Wishes by Wyndham Expo to help fill backpacks with nutritionally-sound food items.  Additional Wishes by Wyndham donation boxes are located at various spots around the tournament.

Offering something for everyone, a custom, limited-edition Lilly Pulitzer print scarf, featuring original artwork that borrows inspiration and images from experiencing a day at the beach, is available for purchase on-site in the pro shop during the week of the Wyndham Championship. Proceeds will benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, which works to advance research to eradicate breast cancer.
