(NEWS) MORRISVILLE, North Carolina, United States, 2026-Sep-11 — /Travel PR News/ — Raleigh-Durham International Airport is adding a new airline and another direct link to Mexico this autumn, with Volaris set to begin nonstop flights to Guadalajara on 16 October 2026.
The new service will operate three times a week — on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays — using a 238-seat Airbus A321neo, according to details released by RDU. It will be Volaris’ first route at the North Carolina airport and will make Guadalajara RDU’s third nonstop destination in Mexico alongside Cancun and Mexico City.
For travellers across North Carolina’s Research Triangle, the route creates a direct connection with western Mexico and removes the need for a domestic or international transfer on journeys between the two regions. RDU is also positioning the service as a business link between two technology-oriented economies, while Volaris highlights Guadalajara as its largest hub and an onward gateway within its network.
Mexico connectivity expands at RDU
RDU’s current nonstop destination directory already lists Guadalajara as scheduled to start in October 2026. The same directory shows Cancun served by several carriers and Mexico City served by Aeromexico, giving travellers three distinct Mexican markets once the Volaris route begins.
The Guadalajara launch also adds another airline to an increasingly diverse carrier mix at RDU. The airport says Volaris will become its 19th airline and lift the network to a record 91 nonstop destinations.
Michael Landguth, president and CEO of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority, said the route is expected to support business ties as well as visits between friends and relatives in the two regions. The airport described Guadalajara as a natural fit for the Research Triangle because of the two areas’ technology and innovation sectors.
From the airline side, Holger Blankenstein, Volaris executive vice president for commercial and operations, said the service forms part of the carrier’s wider effort to expand connectivity between Mexico and the United States. Volaris is also promoting Raleigh-to-Guadalajara travel on its booking site ahead of the launch.
A new western Mexico gateway for Triangle travellers
Guadalajara gives RDU passengers direct access to Jalisco’s state capital, a major business and cultural centre in western Mexico. Unlike RDU’s Cancun service, which is heavily associated with leisure demand, Guadalajara also serves a broad mix of business, family and visiting-friends-and-relatives traffic.
Volaris’ October launch comes as the airline adds new U.S.–Mexico routes across its network. Its new-routes page highlights October 2026 expansion to Guadalajara, Puebla and Querétaro, reflecting continued growth in cross-border flying between the two countries.
For RDU, the service extends an international portfolio that already includes nonstop routes to destinations in Canada, the Caribbean and Europe as well as Mexico. The airport’s published network currently includes London, Paris, Frankfurt, Dublin and Reykjavik alongside a growing set of North American destinations.
The new Guadalajara flights are scheduled to start Friday, 16 October. Travellers should check operating dates, schedules and fare conditions directly with Volaris before booking, as airline timetables can change.
