Thomson first tour operator to launch innovative and immersive iPad magazine

2013-08-06— /travelprnews.com/ — With tablet usage in the UK tripling year-on-year, taking the total to 30 per cent of the population*, Thomson becomes the first tour operator to launch a brand new innovative and immersive iPad magazine that is designed to give the user a true feel of the unique holiday experience they will enjoy in resort, even before they travel.

The free to download interactive digital magazine focuses solely on Thomson Sensatori and features rich, interactive and animated destination guides, Sensatori’s sustainability commitments and interviews with the people who really make a Sensatori holiday stand out from the rest. For example, the executive chef of Le Chique at Sensatori Mexico tempts the taste buds by talking about his training with world famous expert in molecular gastronomy Ferrán Adriá, and how this experience influences the food he creates for guests. An entertainment showcase film is the perfect teaser of the West End quality Sensatori shows customers can expect in resort – fully embedded into the magazine. Users can experience the animation, video and competitions without being referred to external pages. The iPad-edition magazine will be available from the Apple News Stand from 25th July.

As part of the all new digital magazine, Thomson is thrilled to announce the first ever 360° panoramic hotel experience –Thomson Resort View. Using the iPad as a view finder, the user can experience a virtual tour of Sensatori Sharm el Sheikh, giving the feeling of actually being there. Using the iPad’s gyroscope, the user will be able to explore around the hotel just by moving the device in different directions.

Thomson Resort View will soon be hosted on www.holidaysjustgotbetter.com and users can look forward to seeing some further additions from the Thomson product range in the near future.

Luke Gaskins, Head of Product Development and Delivery, said “We are thrilled to be leading the way in mobile and tablet technology within the travel industry. The huge number of holidaymakers preparing themselves for summer breaks, combined with our commitment to providing as many Wi-Fi hot spots in our resorts as possible, makes this a great time to excite our customers ahead of their holiday with these virtual experiences. This is our first interactive magazine, and we will be developing more in the near future, so customers can continue to experience our product in a new and exciting way, at the same time as helping us take another step towards becoming a more sustainable and digitally innovative company.”
