Thailand hosts the World Teak Conference 2013 In Bangkok, 25-30 March 2013

2013-01-22 — /travelprnews.com/ — HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has advised to the Lord Chamberlain to study and to look into how to conserve and preserve the important plant genetic resources of Thailand, that would benefits to the Thai of present and future generations. The HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Plant Genetic Conservation Project (RSPG) was thus established in June, 1992. The main objectives of RSPG are to conserve Thai plant genetic resources and to establish plant germplasm bank. With HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s advises on project’s operation, RSPG has progressed rapidly. Many important plant species have been conserved and several species were preserved in the germplasm bank. Data base center has also been established with useful data that collected from around the countries. Government and non-Government agencies have joined the RSPG project. Over 1,600 schools have participated in the project and students learned. At present, RSPG is operating under the 5th five year plan (2011-2015) to focus on 3 important resources, namely; the biological resources, phisical resources and traditional and cultural resources.

In 2011, RSPG project, together with RSPG Foundation launched a 5 years project to plant 8.4 million trees of ‘Mahesak’ (the oldest and biggest teak tree in the world) and ‘Sak Siamintra’ (planted by Thai King Rama V, the Great’s instruction) to all 7,255 tambons (a community villages) around Thailand to celebrate Our beloved King Rama IX’s 84th birthday anniversary. The project with the support from private and public sectors creates a lot of public awareness and progresses quickly.

Due to good works of RSPG project for the past 20 years, RSPG Foundation is commissioned by FAO and TEAKNET to organize the “World Teak Conference 2013” on March 25-30, 2013 at Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre, Bangkok, Thailand.

The conference will be one of a kind. It will be the biggest conference in teak ever organized. It is expected to have 1,000 participants to attend from over 35 countries around the world. It will be 3 days (March 25-27) symposium in Bangkok and 3 days (March 28-30) post-conference tour (field trip).

The conference will consist of 4 symposia and be conducted concurrently in the same venue. The four symposia are:

  • Symposium I: Genetics, silviculture and utilization
  • Symposium II: Environment & Climate Change & Carbon Trading
  • Symposium III: Economics & Investments
  • Symposium IV: Rural Development

The conference program of each symposium is pre-designed by experts to meet the participants needs. And, top notch speakers are specially selected from the industries and been invited to talk and discuss the important and interesting issues with participants at the conference.

The motto of the conference is “Sharing Our Planet: Teak Model Development towards the Improvement of Mankind”. Therefore, the symposium will focus on sharing of knowledge and experiences on teak and its impacts on economics, investment, environment and rural developments among the participants and with the speakers.

In addition to the symposia, there will be academic poster sessions, exhibition and commercial displays. Business matching corners, meeting the authors and speakers sessions will also be arranged during the conference.

The post conference tour will be organized by professionals. It will be a valuable trip up north of Bangkok to see the teak plantation, teak improvement program, teak factories and visit the biggest and the oldest teak tree in the world. The participants will have an opportunity to plant teak as a momento, and to see the country side of Thailand.
