The Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority approves City of Apache Junction Membership

MESA, Ariz., 2013-06-21 — /travelprnews.com/ — The Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority voted unanimously to approve the City of Apache Junction as the sixth member government in the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority.

Mesa, Gilbert, Queen Creek, Phoenix and the Gila River Indian Community comprise the remaining membership. Each member government has a single Board seat and vote.

Gateway Board Chairman and Mesa Mayor Scott Smith said “We are excited to see Apache Junction become a participating member of the Gateway Airport and to take an active role in planning its future.”

The City of Apache Junction and each existing PMGAA Board Member must now seek respective council approval of the changes to the Airport Authority’s Joint Powers Agreement in order for the new membership to take effect.

Under the terms of its membership, Apache Junction will contribute $530,000 to PMGAA during Fiscal Year 2014, to be utilized by PMGAA for implementation of its FY14 capital program. The $530,000 represents a one-time fee of $400,000 to join the Airport Authority, and a contribution of $130,000, as a member government. Apache Junction will contribute $130,000 annually to PMGAA from Fiscal Year 2015 through Fiscal Year 2018. The $130,000 annual contribution will continue past Fiscal Year 2018, as long as Apache Junction remains a Member of PMGAA past its initial five-year term.
