The Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications praised BAC’s efforts in training Bahrainis at its new Baggage Handling Services (BHS) Department

Muharraq, Bahrain, 2019-Feb-27 — /Travel PR News/ — His Excellency the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, and Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) Chairman, Engineer Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed held an inspection visit to BAC’s new Baggage Handling Services (BHS) Department, meeting its team, including 18 Bahrainis who are currently undergoing specialised training. He stressed the importance of providing all the necessary training required to develop the capabilities of this team, in line with BAC’s vision, and the aim to improve the standards of the Bahraini labour force. The department will be tasked with the responsibility of supervising baggage handling at Bahrain International Airport (BIA) with the inauguration of its New Passenger Terminal Building.

His Excellency the Minister and other attendees listened to a detailed explanation of the basic functions of the new department and its main roles, which is to provide quality ground operations services that comply with the highest levels of security and operational safety through an efficient and highly qualified team. The department will be responsible for coordinating with relevant stakeholders to ensure that baggage handling is safe, secure, and on time. The meeting also covered an overview of the training programmes being offered to the team, which includes field visits, case studies and Operations Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) practical experience that will prepare them for handling a capacity of up to 4,800 bags an hour once the New Passenger Terminal Building is opened.

The Minister praised the administrative and organisational steps made by BAC in developing the skills and capabilities of Bahrainis and preparing them for leadership positions in the aviation industry, which is among the most important objectives of the Airport Modernisation Programme (AMP), along with providing passengers with an exceptional travel experience in line with the best regional and international airports. He stressed the importance of the team’s involvement in all operations that will ensure the on time opening of the New Passenger Terminal Building during the third quarter of this year, and the need to provide them with all the necessary skills needed to work with the airport’s new 8.6-kilometre conveyor belt system. Baggage will be carried from the passenger terminals to the aircraft via flexible and advanced automated systems which will provide a high level of protection for passengers belongings against loss or damage.
