The Makena Beach & Golf Resort continues its Food & Wine Education Series with Master Sommelier Patrick Okubo

Wailea-Makena, Hawaii, 2014-03-14 — /Travel PR News/ — The Makena Beach & Golf Resort continues its’ Food & Wine Education Series featuring Master Sommelier Patrick Okubo. In the March edition on Thursday March 20, 2014 at 6:30 PM, the Molokini Bar & Grille hosts a Taste of Bordeaux.
The event features three wines from France’s famed Bordeaux region paired with gourmet tasting dishes designed and prepared by Executive Chef Marc McDowell and Chef De Cuisine Kurt Lesmerises.

For the event, Hawaii’s youngest Master Sommelier provides his picks for unique wines from France’s largest growing wine region and an area notorious for great wine, while Chef De Cuisine Kurt Lesmerises demonstrates how to make one of night’s featured tasting dishes. Pairings for the event include:

Chateau Malengin, Montagne Saint Emilion 2009
Confit de Duck Cassoulet
Slow simmered duck confit with Malama Farms braised pork pancetta, pork sausages and Ranch
Gordo white beans with a crisped bread crumb crust

Chateau Larose De Gruaud, Saint Julien 2009
Steak a la Bordelaise
Malden sea salt roasted New York strip loin, Kumu Farms glazed carrots, hand-cut pomme
frites, bordelaise sauce and maître d’butter

Chateau Gravas, Sauternes 2010
Creme Brulee
Traditional French custard with caramelized sugar topped with fresh berries

Makena Beach & Golf Resort’s food and wine education series features a culinary partnership between Master Sommelier, Patrick Okubo, and Makena Beach & Golf Resort Executive Chef, Marc McDowell, that focuses on various wines paired with dishes made with fresh local ingredients. With a different them each month, diners will be able to sample three wines with three paired dishes at each event. During each event Makena’s culinary team will provide demonstrations on the dishes being featured, while Master Sommelier, Patrick Okubo will be on hand to share his expertise on the wines chosen for each event.

About Master Sommelier, Patrick Okubo
Patrick “Pat” Okubo is a Master Sommelier with the Court of Master Sommeliers, a Certified Wine Educator (CWE), and Certified Specialist of Spirits (CSS). A graduate of University High and the University of Hawaii, he is a member of the National Guard, runs The Wine GI, a personal wine consultation and education business, and is host of A Perfect Sip – an online radio show, www.aperfectsip.com. Pat is the Fine Wine Specialist and Wine Educator for Young’s Market Hawaii. Previously, he opened Formaggio Grill as Managing Partner and Wine Director / Restaurant manager at Four Seasons Lana’i. Pat is the third Master Sommelier in Hawaii and is the second youngest Master Sommelier in the nation.
