SWISS to introduce non-stop Zurich-Singapore service

2012-09-26 — /travelprnews.com/ — Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) will be adding Singapore to its route network in May of next year. The new long-haul destination, one of Asia’s prime business hubs, will receive daily non-stop service from Zurich using Airbus A340 equipment.

SWISS will be further expanding its range of air services to and from Asia next spring. The carrier will introduce daily non-stop flights between Zurich and Singapore on 12 May 2013.

Singapore is one of Asia’s prime economic hubs. The city-state is not only a global financial and commercial centre, but is also home to several major industries including manufacturing, advanced technology, biotech and pharmaceuticals. It is also a favourite among tourist travellers, and provides an ideal base or stopover point for key vacation destinations in Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia. On the cargo front, too, SWISS’s new non-stop Zurich-Singapore service offers sizeable promise and potential.

“Singapore is one of Switzerland’s most important intercontinental markets, and one that has seen constant growth over the past few years,” says SWISS CEO Harry Hohmeister. “By providing our new daily non-stop service from Zurich, we aim to meet this substantial demand. In doing so, we’re also continuing our steady long-term investment in the region: Singapore will be SWISS’s eighth Asian destination.”

SWISS will operate the new route with Airbus A340-300 equipment offering 219 seats. The new flights mark a return to the city-state of sorts: SWISS served Singapore from its foundation until spring 2009, though this previous service was routed via Bangkok.

Schedule:
Zurich – Singapore  LX 178  22:45 – 17:10 (the following day)
Singapore – Zurich  LX 179  23:05 – 06:10 (the following day)

The new flights will be bookable via swiss.com and all further reservations channels and outlets from 8 October.
