SIA Cabin Crew volunteers hosted a fun-filled event for Elderly And Children

2013-05-27 — /travelprnews.com/ — Singapore Airlines cabin crew volunteers hosted nearly 360 elderly and children with special needs from 10 beneficiaries for a memorable morning of fun today (25 May 2013) , at the CARNIVAL Summer Vacation 2013 event held at Sentosa.

The event was organised by volunteers from the SIA Cabin Crew Club for Community Care and also involved participation from the SIA Community Service Club, SATS and the Community Chest.

Beneficiaries are the Chaoyang Association For Persons With Special Needs (APSN) School, Katong APSN, Asian Women’s Welfare Association (AWWA) Community Home, Children’s Cancer Foundation, Henderson Aged Reachout Programme, MINDS Rosyth Employment Development Centre (EDC), Moral Seniors Activity Centre, Life Community Services Society, Canossian School and Grace Orchard School.

The event, at the Port of Lost Wonder and Angsana Beach, Sentosa, commenced with games and activities conducted by volunteers from various extracurricular activity groups in SIA, followed by dance and vocal performances by cabin crew performing groups. More than 130 volunteers, comprising cabin crew, SATS employees and SIA employees who are part of the SIA Community Service Club, took part in the event.

“Service excellence is woven into the fabric of our airline. However besides nurturing a passion for service among our cabin crew, we also believe in doing our part to give back to the communities in which we operate. Through this carnival, our volunteers aim to provide guests from the beneficiaries a fun and meaningful day out,” said Acting Senior Vice President Cabin Crew, Mr Marvin Tan.

About 5Cs
Run entirely by a group of volunteers, 5Cs also embarks on the Reach Out Programme for Employees of SIA (ROPES), extending its volunteerism work beyond Singapore to beneficiaries in Phnom Penh, Yangon and West Timor. Annual fundraising is conducted to fund activities and programmes for the selected beneficiaries. Last year, proceeds from fundraising went towards the construction of three classrooms and a library for the Ka Ort School in Phnom Penh. Volunteers also helped out in the construction of toilets for the Fullmoon Orphanage in Yangon earlier this year.
