(NEWS) SHANNON, Ireland, 2026-Jun-10 — /Travel PR News/ — Shannon Airport is preparing for a busy start to World Cup travel as football supporters use the West of Ireland airport to reach key host cities in the United States.
Although Ireland is not competing in the tournament, Shannon is expected to serve as a convenient gateway for fans travelling from Scotland, England and France, particularly because of its direct transatlantic services to Boston and New York/New Jersey. Both cities will host group-stage matches involving several European teams.
Scotland is scheduled to play two group matches in Boston, while England and France will play fixtures in both Boston and New York/New Jersey, creating travel demand from supporters heading across the Atlantic.
According to a press announcement published by Shannon Airport, its connectivity includes five weekly Ryanair services from Edinburgh, twice-weekly Aer Lingus flights from Paris and multiple daily services from England through Ryanair and Aer Lingus. The airport also offers full US Preclearance, allowing passengers to complete US immigration and customs checks before departure and arrive in the United States as domestic travellers.
Niall Kearns, Airport Director of Shannon Airport, said the airport has already welcomed supporters travelling through Shannon on their way to the tournament and expects more football fans to use the airport over the coming weeks.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup features 48 teams, 104 matches and 16 host cities across Canada, Mexico and the United States, making it the largest edition of the tournament to date.
