SFO to Conduct Full Scale Emergency Water-Crash Exercise

SAN FRANCISCO, 2012-09-26 — /travelprnews.com/ — San Francisco International Airport will conduct a full-scale emergency exercise on the morning of Wednesday, September 26, 2012 between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon. The exercise will test and evaluate the new Marine Emergency Response Facility (MERF), aka boat house, and will simulate the rescue of passengers involved in a water-crash incident.  Emergency responders from the San Francisco Fire Department Airport Division and the San Francisco Police Department Airport Bureau will lead the response.  They will be supported by mutual aid units from around the Bay Area.

North Access Road is accessible at the US-101/I-380 interchange.  Follow the signs to the Coast Guard Air Station.  The Marine Emergency Response Facility is located just past the Coast Guard Air Station.  Media parking will be just south of the MERF, on the bayside of North Access Road.  Media desiring to cover the exercise should arrive no later than 8:45a.m.

Rescue vessels will operate into and out of the Marine Emergency Response Facility Exercise with volunteer role-players on board simulating passengers extricated from the water as well as family members and friends of those on board.  Some volunteers simulating the role of injured passengers will be transported to a local hospital.
