In celebration of the highly anticipated 12-21-12 historic date, which marks the completion of the Mayan calendar’s “great cycle” and the rebirth of a new world, Sense, A Rosewood Spa®, has drawn on the culture’s rich spirit and proven curative techniques to develop three exceptional treatments and spa experiences that will leave guests feeling relaxed and renewed.

The following spa treatments will be available exclusively at Rosewood Mayakoba as of October 1, 2012:
Mayan Equinox Ritual – This spa ritual, available only in 2012, will provide guests with an experience that is derived from the Mayan culture and designed to revitalize and prepare for a new beginning. The Mayan Equinox Ritual begins with a Temazcal session which ignites the fire of the heated stones to provide guests with the inner energy to balance body, mind and spirit, followed by a traditional blessing of burning copal incense that was imparted on Mayan warriors in preparation for battle. In a luxurious spa treatment room, a body fortification wrap and mask created with jade, gold, silver and a unique blend of indigenous minerals will nourish the skin. At the end of the ritual all guests will receive a pendant crafted in silver and monogramed with a designated Mayan name. 150 minutes, single $450/couples treatment $900
Mayan Garden Detoxifying Ritual – From the heart of the spa arises this physical and spiritual purifying treatment, whereby therapists thoughtfully select herbs from the on?property garden to prepare a customized curative detoxifying recipe rich in minerals and antioxidants. The experience starts with a body mask made of Mayan clay and a mix of herbs including rosemary and eucalyptus. The clay is then exfoliated and removed with a cloth of cactus fibers immersed in warm water. The Mayan Garden Detoxifying Ritual ends with a relaxing stone massage. 150 minutes, $400
New Moon Treatment – Ideal for expecting mothers, the treatment is inspired by the Mayan ceremony of the new moon honoring the Goddess of Moon and Fertility, “Ixchel.” This treatment is designed to relax and protect the new mother, beginning with a rose infusion bath that eases the senses and an apricot and honey full body cleansing to soothe the skin. The experience is completed with a customized prenatal massage applying essential creams of yoghurt. The mother to be will receive a silver crafted pendant engraved with the Mayan horoscope sign of the new baby. 120 minutes, $350 per person
