Rokeby school students discover careers at London City Airport

2012-07-23 — /travelprnews.com/ — Year nine students from Stratford secondary school, Rokeby recently visited London City Airport for a  Careers Awareness Day, learning about, interview techniques, CV preparation and careers at the airport  from airport staff.

The organisers, East London Business Alliance (ELBA) and London City Airport, invited 15 students from various classes at the school to come along to the airport for a fun-filled day of activities. Students were shown around the airport, assigned team building tasks, asked airport staff (including a pilot) about their job roles and learnt how to write a winning CV.

Alison White from ELBA said: “As part of ELBA’s award-winning school’s Business Action Group programme, London City Airport, founding member of the group, hosted a group of 15 students from Rokeby School to develop an understanding of career opportunities at the airport and of the key skills and career pathways they need to develop to be competitive on the jobs market.

“The career visit was highly interactive with staff from the airport working alongside students to raise their skills and aspirations. The students were particularly impressed with meeting a pilot, but also with the wide range of careers available at the airport.”

The day forms part of London City Airport’s Education Excellence programme aimed at improving the skills and aspirations of young people in the local area.

London City Airport (LCY) is the only airport situated in London itself, just two miles from the site of the 2012 Olympic Games, three miles from Canary Wharf, seven miles from the City and 10 miles from London’s West End – linked to all via the LCY Docklands Light Railway station. Welcoming over 3 million passengers in 2011, LCY is not only uniquely convenient, but offers a uniquely rapid transit, through check-in and security to the departure lounge and gate, of around 20 minutes. 10 airlines fly out of LCY, serving over 40 destinations – the latest additions for 2012 are Basel, Mahon, Angers, Quimper, Venice and Aberdeen. LCY is on Twitter (@londoncityairport) and further information about flights, destinations and airport services can be found at www.londoncityairport.com.
