(NEWS) DOHA, Qatar, 2026-Jul-6 — /Travel PR News/ — Airports around the world are accelerating the adoption of biometric technology as they seek to reduce processing times, improve passenger flow and create more seamless travel experiences.
Hamad International Airport (HIA) and Qatar Airways have launched Fast Pass, a biometric passenger processing service that enables travellers to move through key departure checkpoints using facial recognition instead of repeatedly presenting travel documents. According to a press release published by Hamad International Airport, the rollout—developed in partnership with technology provider SITA—connects more than 700 biometric touchpoints, making it one of the largest deployments of its kind in both the Middle East and globally.
Passengers can register for Fast Pass through self-service check-in kiosks at the airport or via the Qatar Airways mobile app. Once enrolled, they can use facial recognition at biometric-enabled check-in counters, bag drop, security screening and boarding gates, allowing them to use their face as their boarding pass.
The airport says the process takes only seconds, reducing document checks and helping shorten queues during peak travel periods. Participation in the programme is voluntary, with traditional processing remaining available and airport staff on hand to assist passengers.
The launch reflects growing demand for biometric travel solutions. Hamad International Airport notes that, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), most passengers now prefer biometric identification over physical travel documents.
Fast Pass forms part of HIA’s broader Innovation Roadmap and is expected to expand to additional passenger touchpoints. The airport also plans to make the capability available to other airlines operating from Hamad International Airport in the future.
