Monthly passenger totals continue rise thanks to new airlines and new flights.
Oakland, CA, 2017-Jun-02 — /Travel PR News/ — Officials at Oakland International Airport today (May 31, 2017) released April traffic reports, which indicate that total passengers at the airport increased 12.8%, from 941,248 in April 2016, reaching 1,061,616 passengers in April 2017. The increase is based upon 6.4% more operations and 8.5% more seats.
Traffic is expected to continue to grow as new airline activity takes off. Among the new routes and flights contributing to the April growth, a brand new, nonstop flight to London’s Gatwick Airport commenced March 28th on British Airways from OAK. On the same day, Norwegian added Copenhagen, completing the “triple crown” of Scandinavian cities now reachable with nonstop service from OAK, along with Oslo and Stockholm.
Spirit Airlines added Detroit and expanded service to Baltimore on May 25th. In June, as the peak summer travel season enters full swing, OAK will also see new service from Southwest, with new nonstop service to Newark beginning June 4th. International passenger counts at OAK will continue growing with the June 2nd introduction of Level, IAG’s new Airline, which will launch Northern California’s first-ever nonstop service to Barcelona. Norwegian will also begin to fly from Oakland to Barcelona on June 7. The airport is preparing for one of the busiest summer travel seasons in recent history.

Francis. “New international and domestic markets reflect confidence in OAK from both our customers and airline partners, alike. Travelers and industry partners have many choices in the San Francisco Bay Area, and they are choosing to fly the East Bay way.”
