In partnership with Museo Pambata, Dusit Thani Manila features ‘Sipat Lawin, a Storytelling Ensemble at the Kids’ Zone of the famed Sunday Family Crossover Brunch in a month-long educational adventure for its dining guests, children and adults alike.
Aside from the nearly 4-hour ultimate gastronomic adventure where guests literally cross over from one specialty restaurant to another to sample a wide array of international dishes, Dusit Thani Manila also created the Kid’s Zone, where the young and the young at heart can participate in a different set of playtime and arts & crafts activities per week in between their foodie expedition.
Children will be taught how to make monkey puppets, fairy and dwarf sand art, animal paper plate masks and monster hats from 11:30 am to 3:00pm. At 1:00pm, a 15-minute theatrical storytelling will be presented by the Sipat Lawin Ensemble.
This year, Dusit Thani Manila has partnered with different sectors to help raise funds for the children of Bantay Bata Foundation and Operation Smile. This time, the hotel has partnered with Museo Pambata, one of the Philippines’ pioneers in children museums and is the first children’s discovery museum in the country. Sipat Lawin Ensemble (SLE) is an edge work, site-specific theater company composed of young Theater Arts alumni from the Philippine High School for the Arts, and their collaborators. Changing the landscape of theater performances in the Philippines, Sipat Lawin engages in ensemble and collaborative work as the group aims to develop a contemporary community theater experience shared among artists and audiences inside and/or outside the four walls of the theater. The Ensemble aims to create and develop new forms of inter-action, social functions and modes of communication. Crossing and blurring boundaries among different performance media, SLE collaborates with top artists from different fields. Engagement. Proximity. Coverage. We don’t make plays. JK Anicoche
One of the featured storytellers this month of October at the Sunday Family Crossover Brunch is JK Anicoche. He is an art practitioner of multiple artistic-identities crossing boundaries from mainstream to contemporary performance art movement in the Philippines. He is a Theater Arts graduate at the Philippine High School for the Arts in Mt. Makiling and is a BA Film and Audio Visual Communications student at the University of the Philippines in Diliman. He has appeared in several major theater productions for Philippine Educational Theater Association, Tanghalang Pilipino, Sipat-Lawin Ensemble, Trumpets, Kids Acts Philippines, Ballet Philippines and Exhibition Theater. He was host for the children’s show Miya on QTV 11 in 2007 and had done hosting stints for Art Angel, Batang Bibbo, Kids on Q and Cartoon Network.
