Manchester Airport announces return of its Junior Apprentice competition

Manchester, UK, 2019-Jan-29 — /Travel PR News/ — Manchester Airport’s Junior Apprentice competition is back for 2019, with Year Five and Six pupils from across Greater Manchester and Cheshire being encouraged to take part. Winning students will even get the chance to hear themselves on the airwaves and see their work in the terminals of the UK’s third largest airport.

Students will need to get creative, developing their own marketing campaign based on the theme of ‘Safety in the Sun’. The competition will involve creating a unique radio advert and an informative poster to promote their campaign, as well as giving a presentation to a panel of business professionals.

The winning students have the exciting opportunity to record their radio advert professionally in Global Radio’s Manchester studio, and hear it played on air. The winning ‘Safety in the Sun’ poster will also be displayed across Manchester Airport’s three terminals during the summer season.

Teachers will be provided with a specialist pack to support students with the competition, including lesson plans, supportive videos from business professionals and a mentor for the team.

Senior managers from Manchester Airport and its service partners will act as dedicated personal advisors for the teams, supporting students with their marketing campaign and presentations.

As well as being on the radio and having their campaign displayed in the airport, the winners will win their whole school a day with Circus Sensible and its big top tent on their school field, so they can all watch a performance and learn circus skills.

The winners will also receive a trophy to take back to school and show with pride to their classmates whilst all pupils entering the competition will be presented with a certificate and medal, with second and third place winning a visit from an ice cream van.

Wendy Sinfield, Community Relations Manager at Manchester Airport, said: “Last year’s competition was a great success so we’re delighted to be running the competition again for 2019. The Junior Apprentice scheme is just one part of the wealth of education outreach Manchester Airport does, where in the last year we engaged with almost 15,000 pupils.

“It’s wonderful to see the students work together as a team and see their confidence, communication, creative and problem-solving skills flourish.”

All year five and six pupils are encouraged to get involved, working in teams of 6, with one team from each school submitting a design. Class teachers will be asked to shortlist one campaign to represent the school.
