Macao Government Tourism Office presented the “Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme” Awards

Macao, China, 2019-Dec-03 — /Travel PR News/ — Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) hosted the “Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme” (“QTSAS” or the “Scheme”) Awards Gala Dinner today (2 December) to commend award-winning catering businesses and travel agencies of the year, encouraging industry operators to provide quality tourism services. The Scheme was launched in 2014. To date, there are 281 catering businesses and 40 travel agencies awarded as “Star Merchant”. This year, MGTO extended QTSAS to cover the retail sector as well through collaboration with the “Certified Shop Scheme” of Consumer Council. Award-winning retailers will be unveiled tomorrow (3 December).

Different personages attended the Gala Dinner including MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes; MGTO Deputy Director Cheng Wai Tong; President of the Executive Committee of Consumer Council, Wong Hon Neng; Head of Department of Environmental Hygiene and Licensing of Municipal Affairs Bureau, Fong Vai Seng; Head of MGTO Training and Quality Management Department, Doris Leong; Coordinator for Hotel Management and Tourism Event Management Programmes, Tourism College of the Institute for Tourism Studies, Connie Loi; President of the United Association of Food and Beverage Merchants of Macao, Chan Chak Mo; President of the Board of Directors of Association of Macau Small and Medium Enterprises of Catering, Vincent Ieong; President of Macau Travel Agency Association, Alex Lao; President of the Board of Directors of Travel Industry Council of Macau, Andy Wu Keng Kuong; President of Association of Macao Tourist Agents, Guan Dehui, and Chair of Macau Hotel Association, Jocelyn Wong, among others.

In speaking at the dinner, MGTO Director Senna Fernandes remarked that MGTO launched QTSAS in 2014 with the objectives to establish service quality standards for members of the tourism industry as well as support and encourage them to upgrade their service quality. The Scheme also aims to recognize tourism businesses for their outstanding services and excellent service management. The Scheme has gained wide recognition and satisfactory results among industry operators. The Scheme targeted the catering sector in the beginning and later expanded to include travel agencies as well. This year, through collaboration with the “Certified Shop Scheme” of Consumer Council, QTSAS was widened to cover the retail sector, supporting the implementation of the key objective to “improve service quality and skills” listed in the Macao Tourism Industry Development Master Plan.

91 catering businesses and 12 travel agencies won QTSAS Awards 2019

QTSAS presents two accolades namely “Star Merchant Award” and “Service Star Award”. In 2019, 91 catering merchants were presented the “Star Merchant Award” while four of them also secured the “Service Star Award”. On the other hand, the “Star Merchant Award” went to a total of 12 travel agencies, two of which also harvested the “Service Star Award – Inbound Service” and “Service Star Award – Outbound Service” respectively. Award-winning retailers to be unveiled tomorrow

MGTO and Consumer Council launched their first collaborative initiative – “Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme” crossover “Certified Shop Scheme” this year for a greater synergy. The collaboration aims to safeguard consumers’ right and commend retailers for their quality services, inspiring the retail sector to join hands in pushing forward quality tourism. The list of award-winning retailers of the year will be unveiled on Macao Tourism Industry Net tomorrow (3 December).

MGTO will continue to roll out QTSAS and assist tourism and related industry operators to organize different training programmes, leading to an overall upgrade of service quality in the tourism industry in line with Macao’s vision to become a world centre of tourism and leisure.
