Opfikon, Switzerland, 2020-Jan-10 — /Travel PR News/ — Swissport and Lufthansa signed a 5-year contract for cargo handling at Brussels and Liège airports. The agreement covers Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines.
At the end of December 2019, Swissport and Lufthansa Cargo renewed their agreement regarding cargo handling at Brussels and Liège airports. The agreement includes warehousing and cargo ramp transport of mail, pharmaceuticals, valuables and general cargo for Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines. The contract is valid until the end of 2024.
For Swissport, the renewed agreement yields a substantial increase in tonnage handled at its cargo facility at Brussels airport, where it is currently completing a major expansion. Lufthansa’s renewed vote of confidence is based on a thorough selection process and the successful cooperation between Swissport and Lufthansa Cargo to date. Both partners endeavor to further jointly drive digitization to realize cost and process improvement.

In October 2019, Swissport opened its brand new and dedicated Pharma Center at Brussels Airports. The facility boasts 3,620 sqm of temperature controlled, state-of-the-art warehousing space. Swissport‘s existing 25,000 sqm warehouse is also undergoing a refurbished from the ground up. Additionally, a new four-story office building is being constructed. Once completed, it will provide attractive office space for Swissport and its cargo customers.
Swissport Belgium, with a workforce of some 2,000 employees, handles more than 550,000 tons of air cargo per year. Its ground services division serves some 7.5 million passengers annually.
In 2018, Swissport International AG provided best-in-class airport ground services for some 282 million airline passengers and handled roughly 4.8 million tons of air freight in 115 cargo warehouses worldwide. Several of its warehouses have been certified for pharmaceutical logistics by IATA’s CEIV. The world’s leader in airport ground services and air cargo handling, with 66,000 employees, achieved consolidated operating revenue of 2.99 billion euros in 2018. At the end of September 2019, Swissport was active at 307 airports in 48 countries on six continents.
