KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • London Luton Airport has launched an online journey planner that compares train, bus, coach and road options using factors including origin, connections and preferred travel time.
  • LLA and National Express are promoting up to 10,000 one-way £2 coach fares from London to the airport, with eligible travel running from September 15 to December 10, 2026.
  • The National Express offer requires the LUTON2 code and bookings at least 14 days before departure, subject to promotional-seat availability.
  • The journey planner follows LLA’s August Fly and Ride initiative, which offered free travel on direct Arriva and Stagecoach buses for passengers with a valid boarding pass.

London Luton Airport has added a new online journey planner that brings rail, bus, coach and road options into a single comparison tool, extending the airport’s effort to make public transport a more practical part of the passenger journey.

The planner allows travellers to enter a starting point and compare routes using factors such as connections and preferred travel time. The tool is now visible on LLA’s transport information pages, where passengers can explore train, coach, local bus and road options before travelling.

For an airport serving a large London catchment as well as Bedfordshire and surrounding regions, the change addresses a part of the trip that can be as important as the flight itself: how passengers reach the terminal. LLA said the platform is intended to make route choices quicker to understand while supporting its wider push to increase the appeal of public transport.

£2 coach fares add a price incentive to the autumn campaign

The launch is being paired with an autumn promotion with National Express. The coach operator’s current London-to-Luton offer makes up to 10,000 one-way standard-fare seats available for £2 from London to London Luton Airport, subject to availability.

Eligible journeys run from September 15 through December 10, 2026. Travellers must book at least 14 days in advance and enter the promotional code LUTON2 during online checkout. National Express says the campaign covers 49 direct coaches operating around the clock, with nine London boarding points across the network.

The promotion is outbound-only at the £2 rate. National Express also states that passengers booking an eligible outbound trip may add a return journey from the airport to London for £10 in the same transaction, bringing the promotional return base fare to £12. The offer is capped at 10,000 promotional seats and may not be available on every service.

LLA links trip planning with lower-car airport access

Oliver Jaycock, Director of Corporate Affairs at London Luton Airport, said the journey planner and operator partnerships share the aim of making public transport more accessible, affordable and attractive for airport users. He described the new tool as a practical way to help passengers compare routes and identify the most convenient option for their trip.

The initiative follows LLA’s August Fly and Ride campaign, when passengers with a valid printed or digital boarding pass could travel free on direct Arriva and Stagecoach bus services to and from the airport. Together, the promotions show the airport combining digital trip-planning tools with fare incentives rather than relying on information alone to influence ground-transport choices.

Rail remains another major part of the airport’s surface-access network. The Luton Airport Express links London St Pancras International with Luton Airport Parkway, where the electrically powered Luton DART connects passengers onward to the terminal. LLA says the combined journey from central London can take around 30 minutes.

The airport’s September 11 announcement positions the journey planner as the latest step in its work with coach, bus and rail operators. For travellers, the immediate benefit is simpler comparison; for LLA, the broader test will be whether easier planning and lower promotional fares translate into more passengers choosing shared transport over private-car journeys.
