KCI Airport Passenger Traffic Down 7.4 Percent in June

2012-07-26 — /travelprnews.com/ — The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that Kansas City International Airport recorded 904,047 passengers arriving and departing through its gates in June, which represents a decrease of 7.4 percent from June 2011. Passenger boardings at KCI were down 8.5 percent, with a total of 447,501 during June. For the year to date, boardings at KCI totaled 2,470,512, an increase of 1.8 percent from the same period last year.

The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for June was 185. Service was offered to 45 nonstop markets. There was an average of 36,954 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day, down 8.6 percent from last year.

“The decreases in June passenger statistics relate to an 8.5 percent decrease in monthly departures and an 8.6 percent decrease in available seats,” said Tom McKenna, assistant director of aviation – marketing for the Aviation Department. “This trend should continue through the summer as June, July and August show significant reductions in capacity by airlines at KCI.”

Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were up 0.5 percent in June. For the year to date, air cargo at KCI is up 2.5 percent from the same period last year. Air freight handled at KCI during June amounted to over 16.3 million pounds, which represents a year-over-year increase of 1.7 percent. Air mail for June was down 37.6 percent from June 2011. The all-cargo carriers reported 4 daily departures for June.
