JERSEY, 2015-4-27 — /Travel PR News/ — This year’s JAYF (Jersey Association for Youth and Friendship) Open Gardens programme begins in St Lawrence with the beautiful gardens of Domaine des Vaux.
Open on Sunday 26th April by kind permission of Marcus Binney CBE and his wife Anne, these glorious gardens were created in the early 1970s by Sir George and Lady Binney. They have been extended and developed by the present owners to cover some 20 vergees of gardens and woodland.
The valley contains many large specie trees, a magnificent camellia wood with over 40 varieties of the shrubs, azaleas, Japanese maples and several ponds. The ‘Arena’ garden in front of this pink granite Jersey farmhouse is on different levels and planted in silver and grey on one side of the border and gold, yellow and bronze on the other. There is also a white garden with its ‘Iceberg’ roses, and Mediterranean, kitchen and herb gardens to explore.
Cream Teas with Jersey cream and milk donated by The Classic Herd will be available and will be served on the terrace. There will be a Plant Stall and a Raffle. Mike Stentiford will be leading a ‘Bird Walk’ through the woodland during the afternoon.
Domaine des Vaux will be open from 14:00 until 17:00. There will be signposts at nearby junctions.
Entrance costs £3. All proceeds go towards JAYF to provide help and security in four homes on the island for young people of 16-21 who have, through no fault of their own, been denied a family life.
A further six gardens will be opening their gates between May and August for JAYF. These events are suitable for all age groups and make a wonderful family outing. There is no admission charge for children under 12 and free parking. Dogs cannot be accommodated.
