Japan Airlines (JAL) to introduce new in-flight service on Honolulu routes

The first installment for new in-flight meal service

TOKYO, 2013-08-26 — /travelprnews.com/ — Japan Airlines (JAL) will introduce new in-flight service on Honolulu routes and new services in Honolulu, starting from this autumn.

As the first installment, JAL will offer new in-flight meal service from Japan to Honolulu in collaboration with star chef and popular restaurants from September 1, 2013.  In addition, the airline will expand new services in Honolulu from October.

JAL will continue seeking ways to bring passengers a unique and completely refreshing onboard experience through more delectable meal choices with JAL NEW SKY PORJECT.

1.   In-flight meal

The successful in-flight meal service from JAL’s flying restaurant (JAL BEDD-SKY AUBERGE) will be introduced on Honolulu routes from September, 2013.

Business Class   

“BEDD for Resort” crafted by star chef Chikara Yamada

JAL will introduce “BEDD for Resort”, a special menu for Honolulu routes crafted by Star chef Chikara Yamada from JAL BEDD-SKY AUBERGE, starting from September, 2013.

The Japanese menu for 1st meal is seasonal autumn salmon with ginger-fried pork and Western menu is steak of Japanese beef fillet with special sauce perigueux made by “YAMADA CHIKARA”.

Chikara Yamada

Chikara Yamada was born in 1971 at Shizuoka, Japan. During a six-year stint in Spain and other countries, Mr. Yamada trained under Chef Ferran Adri of “El Bulli,” which was known as one of the best restaurants in the world. In 2007, he opened a restaurant named “YAMADA CHIKARA”, serving his own original cuisine.

Effective date:  Starting from September 1, 2013

Available routes: Flights from Tokyo (Narita), Nagoya (Chubu) and Osaka (Kansai) to Honolulu

Economy Class

“Ore-no Kinaishoku for Resort” 

JAL KITCHEN GALLERY, a flying restaurant will introduce new in-flight meal service on Honolulu routes in collaboration with popular restaurants in Japan and famous restaurant chain in Hawaii.

JAL will provide menu of “Ore-no Kinaishoku for Resort” on Honolulu routes in collaboration with Ore-no French and Ore-no Italian which are popular restaurants in Japan.

Kazuhide Nose, Chef of Ore-no French and Toshihiro Yamaura, Chef of Ore-no Italian are working together to design JAL original in-flight meal service, “Ore-no Kinaishoku for Resort” with the reference from the popular menus in their restaurants.

Main dish is Ore-no Beef Stroganoff, designed by Chef Nose with Side dishes and dessert considered by Chef Yamaura are Ore-no Zensai, Ore-no Salad with truffle oil dressing as well as Ore-no Sweets -Derramisu, will be provided between September and November 2013.

The airline will offer Italian main dish designed by Chef Yamaura as well as French side dishes and dessert designed by Chef Nose between December and February 2014.

The famous restaurants with top-ranking chefs once worked at Michelin’s star restaurants are providing luxury cuisine with highest popularity in Japan.

“KUA ‘AINA for Resort”

JAL collaborated with KUA ‘AINA, a restaurant chain well-liked both in Hawaii and Japan to offer new breakfast menu -“KUA ‘AINA for Resort” in the flight from Tokyo (Haneda) to Honolulu.

The original restaurant of KUA ‘AINA opened on Hawaii’s North Shore in May 1975.The restaurant has been serving its famous burgers and succulent chargrilled sandwiches to the locals and visitors alike for over 35 years. There are three KUA ‘AINA restaurants in Hawaii, one KUA ‘AINA restaurant in London and 21 KUA ‘AINA restaurants in Japan.

1.   New services

JAL will provide new services on Honolulu routes including both in-flight services and services in Hawaii.

Have a good rest during the flight departing at the middle-night from Tokyo (Haneda)

In order to ensure passengers have adequate time for rest, the airline will change the service time of in-flight meal from after take-off to before landing for the flight departing from Tokyo (Haneda) at 23:40 from September 1, 2013.

Special place is available for ladies’ make-up* in the flight departing from Japan

The 4 seats in the rear of the Economy class will be set up for Ladies’ make-up from October 1, 2013. This place is also available for nursing, too.

*The service will not be available during the seat belt sign on.

Provide enjoyable in-flight experience to children (JL786/JL785)

JL786 departing from Tokyo (Narita) to Honolulu around 19:00 and JL785 arriving at Tokyo (Narita)around 13:00 from Honolulu are the most suitable flights for pre-school children. The airline will expandpicture books and toys in these flights from October 1, 2013.

JAL OALO CARD Campaign-JALPAK Rainbow Trolley is available for free.

Customers who reserved air tickets in JAL personal fare or JAL mileage bank special fare on Honolulu routes are eligible for this campaign.

New background music in flights between Tokyo and Honolulu from October 1, 2013 

JAL original music performed by Jake Shimabukuro, a famous ukulele artist from Hawaii will be played during the boarding and getting off period of flights between Tokyo and Honolulu.
