ITV’s ‘Heathrow: Britain’s Busiest Airport’ 2nd episode airs on Monday night

The fast-paced documentary goes behind the scenes to look at how the world’s busiest two runway airport is run. Episode 2, which airs at 9pm on Monday 6th June, features Passenger Experience Managers from Terminal 4, the Airside Safety team, Security Officers working in Terminal 4 and operational staff from British Airways.

The first episode in the three-part series, shown on Monday 30th May, attracted 3.7 million viewers, which was 18% of the total audience share. The episode highlighted Security Officer Shahid Saleen as he helped a passenger who was trying to take tools in his hand luggage, as well as Callum Riseley and Demetrios Geniris, Passenger Experience Managers from Terminal 2, who worked together to support a number of passengers who were affected by flight cancellations due to fog.

Some of the staff to look out for in episode 2 are:

Sunita Nanda, a Passenger Experience Manager in the operations team for Terminal 4. She lives in Slough and has worked at Heathrow for nine years.

She said: “I live near the airport and always wanted to work here, so getting the job was a dream come true. As a Passenger Experience Manager you can face several situations at one time, so you I need to think on my feet and decide how to prioritise and what I need to do. Things can take from a couple of minutes to several hours to deal with but the best bit is that I can make a difference to the passenger and help get the best outcome.”

Her favourite moment working at Heathrow was when a young man proposed to his girlfriend as she arrived. He bought lots of balloons and large photos of her which he requested random people to hold as she walked along the arrival concourse with violins playing to where his friends were with the balloons and proposed to her. She said yes.

Chris Simpson is an Airfield Operations Officer. He lives in West Drayton and has worked at Heathrow for 10 years.

He said: “With such variation in my role, every day is different. Both the hardest and best part of the job is going from 0-100 at any given moment. Being filmed as part of the documentary was a great opportunity to show the small but important part I play in the daily running of the airport.”

Both of his parents also work at the airport. His favourite moment working at Heathrow was demonstrating the work that goes into running the airports snow operation to Chief Executive, John Holland-Kaye.

Anasthasia McCarthy works for British Airways as an Aircraft Movement Crew Leader. She has worked at Heathrow for three years and was the first female in her role. She lives in Buckinghamshire.

She said: “I love the buzz of working in a fast paced environment which is challenging and fun. Heathrow is like another world, a city in a city, which relies on people like me to deliver. A critical part of my job is constantly staying vigilant and being aware of your surroundings. The best part is communicating with the flight crew on the pushbacks or with air traffic control on the tows.”

Working at Heathrow runs in her family, with her dad and granddad having previously worked at the airport and her brother recently started work for British Airways. She considers herself a health freak and loves carnival/R’n’B music.

Tony Singh is a Security Officer in Terminal 4. He is from Ealing and has worked at Heathrow for nearly 10 years.

He said: “The best bit of the job for me is meeting people from different backgrounds and helping them out wherever I can. Communicating with passengers from different countries can be difficult from a language perspective but we are trained in the best ways to handle them. The job is most rewarding when I have to overcome a challenge to achieve a positive outcome for people.”

Both his father and brother also work at the airport. His favourite moment working at Heathrow was meeting Nicole Scherzinger and helping her when she was running late for her flight.
